:( Turned in my app late..?

I turned it in at 11 PM pacific time (i live in CA), and it got marked as submitted on 1/03/2010. Will Chicago still consider it? I heard they had a very kind offer last year, about Baker's island time or something.

I think they will. I know a lot of Ivy’s will accept late apps. For example, the dean of Dartmouth said not to worry about sending in app’s a few days late so I think you’re fine. Good luck!

Ugh, they still havent downloaded my supplement portion, which is the part i submitted at 11 pm. I hate myself T_T

They should still accept it. I was incredibly naive during the early action round and assumed that the deadline was was midnight within your own time zone. As such, my app was submitted at about 10:30PM Pacific, yet it was still accepted.

Don’t worry, I did the same thing and I just checked and it’s all been downloaded.
I am, however, worried about the fact that when I print previewed everything it all looked fine. But now that I just rechecked it, it’s all in a weird font and looks different. Not that it’s a huge deal, just strange.

so what happens if I turned in my supplement on 1/2/09 but it didn’t download until the 3rd?!

Guys, it’s fine.

I did the same thing EA and got in.

They downloaded my supplement later, too. It’s cool.

I’m mountain time, and I submitted just before midnight my time. I emailed my rep, and she was like “don’t worry about it. as long as it’s the due date somewhere”

Chicago is not the kind of place to reject you for submitting your app a couple minutes (or even hours) late. They’re cooler than that. ;)

Before Chicago joined the Common App, they allowed applicants to submit up until 11:59 pm Baker Island Time. The Chicago admissions folks would post on their blog some of the explanations they got from people about why they were “submitting from Baker Island” – some were really funny.

The ‘downloaded’ date stamp is when the school actually pulled off the batch of apps that had been submitted. Not to worry!!

I think, in spirit, the Baker Island rule is still in place. I don’t know about the Common App in all regards, but I have heard enough stories about turning in apps late that it will accept the supplements and applications past the marked deadline, it just stamps the submission with its time of submission. While some colleges are strict and adhere to that timestamp, I’m sure U of Chicago is still, in spirit, honoring the Baker Island rule where if you are a couple of hours late from the US, it’s still Jan. 2nd somewhere and thus still ontime, even if CA says it was submitted on Jan. 3rd.

Just my take from observation.

!!! Can I shout and jump for joy? The last hour I have been searching threads trying to find out how awfully I messed up by submitting my CommonApps (to east coast schools) at 10:30 PST in california.

But WannaByalie you just saved me from having a major nervous breakdown! Dartmouth is my top choice and I was so worried my application would not be accepted. YES! Thanks

^lol

I read this topic and thought it was Jan 3rd already (forgot it was 2011). Scared me to death…haha!

oh…oh wow shoot! you’re right! haha, I thought I was replying to recent posts…wow…
and I thought maybe they were in some other part of the world…lol…that doesnt even make sense.

Well ok…I guess that Dartmouth dean thing is a year old, so im not quite as relieved…shoot…

To clarify (for everyone applying for 2011 admission lol) can we still send it in ON the 3rd? Or does it have to be marked the 2nd?

same question?^

OMG!!! I was freaking out! haha I thought my pcs date and time were wrong! and started searching for my cellphone when finally found it I was like ***!! and then duh!! 2010! HAHA…WOW yeah, I gues its ok as long as it is before 11.59pm jan 3rd. by the way anyone knows whats wrong with the fax number?

Are you applying to schools with a deadline of January 2nd?

Because mine were due January first, and because I submitted after midnight east coast time, they were marked for Jan 2nd.

Its not good to have it show up late (unnecessary stress) but my application was still accepted by every college, I believe they have some sort of grace period.
I do not know if the common app website will lock you out and not let you submit, but i dont think so.

For UChicago, applications can be sent on the third.

See https://blogs.uchicago.edu/collegeadmissions/2011/01/what_makes_an_application_on_t.html</a></p>

I live in Pacific Time, but submitted a East Coast school after midnight (according to Eastern time). The date submitted is marked as 01/03/2011.

On the school page and supplement home page, it says the deadline is 01/03/2011, but on the individual supplement and CollegeBoard, the deadline’s 01/02/2011. So which deadline was it??

It’s by the end of today. The original deadline was the 2nd, but UChicago extended it.
