Wait, what? But the CommonApp always said January 3rd, and usually when there’s a deadline that means by 11:59 on that day right…?

I mean, from the new Dean’s message it’s clear that we’re all fine, I’m just confused as to why anyone thought it was due Jan 2nd in the first place…

I gave up on the application because I didn’t have time to write a good essay for the supplement, and I’d rather not apply than subject the admissions people to a rushed/poorly written essay (and receive another rejection letter come Spring).

But today I got an email saying that if I still want to apply, I should submit my application by Friday. Is the deadline flexible then?–would it be worth trying to finish the supplement for Friday, or would I not have much of a chance because I turned it in late?

“On the Common Application website, you indicated an interest in applying to the University of Chicago. According to our records, we have not received your application. If you would like to be considered in our Regular Notification program, please submit (or re-submit) your Common Application and UChicago supplement by Friday, January 7.”

The Common App notifies each college that you put on your list; if you expressed interest in UChicago via the Common App, the college was notified. I’d say go for it! They definitely extended the supplement deadline, but from that email, it sounds like their application is flexible as well.
