Turning down admissions to other UCs

Just a reminder to everyone to decline admissions to the UCs you will not be attending. I believe this opens up spots for other students very much like us. I'm not sure but in any case I was told to do this out of sheer courtesy. Hahahaha, and if you fill out the UCSB survey after you decline admission it puts you in the running for an IPOD nano. Not bad perk.

Or if anything, it helps colleges learn who they are losing their yield battles to; so CCers like us can cite such information in very important debates =]

just completed the UCSB one hehe...I hope I get the nano

By the way, should we decline offer of admission if we don't intent to go there?

According to you with your perspective of freeing out some spots for the appeals, then it is good to send the SIR to decline the admission but what if we look from the schools' perspectives? Do they like it or not? I mean, declining their offers seems kind of bad because we are not choosing them. Any comment?

Kevin-you will be declining their offer regardless.

Well yeah if we pass the deadline without submitting the SIR but that is nicer than explicitly saying "we don't go to this school" on the SIR.
I feel bad to decline UCSD, UCI, UCR, or especially UCB offer of admission.

It's weird how you think it's so personal, kevin. It's not personal for them. You are one of thousands. They would like to know as soon as possible.

I actually said some very nice things about the respective UCs when given a chance like for UCD and UCSB for instance.

believe me UCs don't give a **** if you go or don't go...they are after your money...that's it...you give them money...they give you a piece of paper after 4 years...that's a deal

citan... lol "they give you a piece of paper after 4 years...that's a deal"

You changed your major from engineering to business? ahahhaah

anyways, yeah, I will start sending out SIR to all 9 schools actually soon...I want to choose my top 3 choices but we can only attend one school so only YES to 1 school.... awwww, I have to say bye to the rest 8 schools.

I was very sad to say "no" to UCLA. They made me wait a week or so before telling me I was accepted, but I was very honored and surprised that they had. It was admittedly tempting to accept them, since they gave me fall admission, but I was already set on Berkeley.

SIR sent. I hope it opens a spot for someone excited to go. :)

I hold the same hope...I mean we're all in the same boat here. There's no need to needlessly hold onto a spot when we not we will not be attending a particular school.

Best of Luck to All in their decision making.

What should I do if I accepted SFSU's SIR a long time ago and got an email address etc? Do nothing and let them drop me for not sending transcripts or send them an email? I'd rather do nothing :p

kevin, you got in UCR finally???? lol

Lol, I'm surprised the business major peeps haven't bashed you for this yet.

shirleyxY, hell yeah, UCR finally accepts me as an Electrical Engineering major. I feel bad to decline their admission right away. I haven't gotten the official mail yet, just received the acceptance online like a few days ago. That is kind of surprising cuz UCR usually announce the result the earlist but to me, they do the opposite: they accept me after UCB, UCLA and all the rest accept me. I'm kind of doubtful why they play hard-to-get like that.

sometimes I feel bad for UCR...they are like the fat kid who always got picked on last during gym

I'm probably going to UCR for Business over UCD Managerial Econ or UCSB Bus/econ with accounting.

P.S. Kevin101, what's wrong with business?

hey calm down, I don't say anything wrong about business and also I was talking to ee_stu... I thought he changed from EE to business and that would be surprising since both fields are different.

Again, I am not arguing or doing any debate... anyways, back to my math homework.

hey i was wondering if anyone who posted in this ucla thread would know........i recently submitted my SIR to attend ucla, however now i am having a second opinion about another UC...is it too late to change my mind if i have already submitted my SIR?...............if someone knows of a different thread that is more appropiate for this question could you please link me

You can forfeit the 100 dollars and cancel out.
