Turning down Berkeley for...

carnegie mellon.

CalX: Mainly, Stanford was extremely generous to me in terms of financial aid. Ironically, the reason why a lot of people turn down Stanford - finances - is the reason why I will be going there. Also, many many of the people close to me, even those with strong Berkeley connections - my parents, my mentor (who, as an undergraduate, actually turned down Princeton/Stanford/MIT for Berkeley), my serving ones in church, and even the friends I have at Berkeley - felt that I should go there. And I know that most of these people, especially my mom, didn't tell me that because of the prestige factor.

I don't agree that the reasons people turn down Cal for Stanford in financial. With the merit money I was offered from Stanford it would have been a little less for me to attend Stanford (not by much ) than Cal.
I have a few friends that were admitted to Stanford this year. Two are attending, one was accepted as a Stanford Scholar and the other, he's a pretty shallow guy and is really into the prestige factor.

UPenn! cal was my 2~3rd choice though

I turned down Cal for UCLA. It was a hard decision that I don't regret...yet (?). =)

Turned down UCB for UCLA.

ucsb. i felt that berkeley was too far, too expensive, and too competitive, and ucsb is still pretty good for my major.

NYU Stern. They gave me 10k scholarship and berkeley gave me 0 =(

Congrats to all of you for making the right decision.

Turned down Cal for USC. And apparently so did half the other people on this thread =P

I just turned down berkeley for Davis, because of financial aid. Bit sad, after four months of agonizing anticipation, the opportunity came and went. Go Bears and Aggies!!

Well, you can come visit on the bus to/from Berkeley to/from Davis ever weekday. Sorry it came down to money. :( Hopefully good will come out of it. :)

Yeah, thats true. Maybe a book i'll need "won't" be at davis, so I could have an excuse to take the $5 bus trip. it's all good. :)

5 of 33 posts isn't exactly half... good thing you chose USC! :) Hard to figure why people would choose a school like USC over CAL? Must be $$

I turned it down for UCLA. Going to OHP gave me so much to think about...but I've always thought that if I got into both UCLA and Cal I'd pick UCLA.

What'd you learn at OHP?

That friend going to UCSC over Berkeley is an idiot.

turning down the regent scholarship for Stanford

turned down berkeley for UCDavis. it is a better fit for my personality

What is a "stanford scholar"?
