.....Duke is MUCH closer and they have a better biomedical engineering program(according to US News). I still feel like I'm letting myself down. Stanford is beautiful and it's the hardest decision I've ever made. I'm still not 100% decided as admit weekend may change my mind. Input?

You'll be probably fine at either, but don't base your decision on US News...

Any difference in cost?

I was in a similar dilemma (minus the location issue). I was considering biomedical engineering in addition to other engineering fields. Since (1) I was not absolutely sure about pursuing biomedical engineering at the time, (2) Stanford was stronger in engineering in general (as I was considering other engineering fields at the time), and (3) I really loved Stanford, I chose to go to Stanford.

However, your situation is probably different from mine. Go to admit weekend, get a feel for Stanford, and think about what you really want from a school. Not so helpful, I know, but it really depends on what your goals are and what you like. Both schools are great. Congrats on getting into both.

My decision isn't based on US news, but I thought I would just add that in there. Most of it is distance...Duke is so close. Price isn't a factor.

Pianist-Where do you live?

Close may not be a good thing-get out, try to see another part of the country.

Man, admit weekend is down to the wire, is't it?

wow my two favorite schools...this would definitely be an impossible decision for me. good luck :)

...however, i've visited both and although i absolutely love duke, stanford is in my opinion the best school in the country. trust me you'll love it!

I live in Southern California...a long road trip from Stanford...but I don't think proximity to home factored into my decision.

But anyways, good luck on your decision!

us news (and basically all rankings in general) are based on graduate school...i'm sure that, at the undergrad level, if any school is superior, it would be Stanford (although Duke is a great school as well)

I think you should go to Stanford. Duke's reputation is slipping because it's in a pretty "isolated" place. You might be looking for a job later (10 years?) and if Duke's "prestige" has gone down, like the trend now, you would be better off having graduated from Stanford, which is in a center of commerce.

Also, I know many people who got into Duke but not Stanford (including me). Duke was actually really interested in me, but Stanford only waitlisted me.

Yeah already picked Stanford.

yay!!! i'm so happy that you picked stanford. after admit weekend, stanford REALLY convinced me to go. it was just...i felt at home.

Good Choice. Duke is great but vastly overrated as are most southern schools.

duke owns stanford...

...at bball that is

im pretty sure stanford would have beat duke this year in bball

duke basketball kicks ass! they would absolutely dominate stanford.
