Turning down Umich for?????

Case Western in my case...no pun intended

Case Western in my case as well...also no pun intended.

I liked Michigan alot, it was just too big for me.

I'm going to Penn. I loved Michigan and Penn equally, but Michigan offered me no money except a few thousand in loans as an OOS student, and Penn offered me nearly 3/4ths of their tuition as grant money. I can't say I'm surprised because it's a public state university, but I am disappointed.

WashU (full tuition + 1K/year). Money+size+warmer climate. UMich is a great school though. I hope I will go there for grad.

(sees that there are spots opening up for me... does a little dance!)

mmmm...st. louis warmer climate....not by a whole lot really. They probably have 2 more weeks of warmer weather tops. Don't get your hopes up.

KB

I would only turn down UMich for NYU Stern or Wharton. :D

Turned down Lehigh, Boston College, NYU Stern, Johns Hopkins and Carnegie Mellon for U. Michigan. WASSUP!

Turned down Caltech and MIT for UM. What now haha?

I am turning down u Mich for either GW, INDIANA OR BENTLEY. Michigan just really didn't appeal to me personally although its supposed to be a great school.

way to show 'em tetra.

same as xaiur. turned down nyu stern scholars, carnegie mellon tepper, bc carroll, and uiuc business honors for umich ross. GO BLUEEE!!

I would turn down MIT and CalTech for Cape Cod Community College. Seriously.

Could you share your justification why turn down UMich and select Case ?

My son is facing the same options and has to make decistion soon...

Thanks

NYU! although UM is a great school.

Nothing on UMich, but I'm picking UCLA over UMich. Since I'm in CA, UCLA is a lot cheaper. Plus, it's a lot warmer down in LA.

gli4213, I was deciding between Case and Michigan and ended up choosing Michigan by a mile after I visited both simultaneously. Michigan's campus is full of energy...politics are really important to me and I could find every political group possible. All making sure they were heard, too. Case, on the other hand, was really quiet, which I don't mind, but...the students were all looking up, tired... Even at the student forum, they were all yawning.
The biggest difference that convinced me to go to Michigan was when I went on my own time to visit the Math department. Outside the department were the parties, frats, politics, and football games, but inside the math department, it was an intellectually stimulating environment, like that at UChicago or a liberal arts college or an Ivy. A math professor even pulled me aside and showed my math theory...and made it extremely understandable. At Case, all the math department cared about was degrees and...it just wasn't as professional.

I know my opinion isn't everyone's, and no disrespect to anyone, but after visiting Case, I was 100% Michigan. In fact, I think I would have just gone to U of Alabama or Auburn over Case.

It all depends what you value. I chose Case over UMich(i wouldn't say by a mile) because i value class size. I wanted a more intimate setting, and i didn't want to deal with 300-500 student lectures. Sports are not as important to me, and neither is the party scene. I plan on being a very occasional partier in college, and i think Case suited this perfectly. Obviously, the social scene is an important value to the above poster considering they would choose schools with MUCH lower academic standards than Case.

it all depends what you want...(Gli: i think i PM'd you on the issue also)

Columbia over Michigan.

Turning down Michigan (Honors College) for Pomona College in Claremont, CA.

Turning down full in-state tuition scholarship at Michigan for $38K/yr. in aid from Pomona.
