Tutoring

I want to tutor middle or elementary school kids, but I am not sure how I could get started. Are any of you in tutoring programs? How does it work? How can I get started?

My friend tutors young kids, he works at this place called Kumon, I'm pretty sure they hire people that are older than 16. Maybe you could find one near you.

Are you looking to be paid or volunteering?

Either paid or not, it doesnt matter to me.

A lot of elementary schools have programs where older kids can read to them and tutor them (learning for life and the like). You could definitely go to your local YMCA and see if you could volunteer tutoring there.

i've been tutoring for 4 years. but i guess it was easier for me to get started and establishing something up and running firmly b/c i had connections through my mom. she'd just find an acquaintance she knew and introduc the kid to me, and we'd then start our tutoring sessions. then i got more well known in town as a tutor. so ask around for tutoring jobs

For the love of God, don't do Kumon. That place is not tutoring. It is Hell.

Check at your local elementary and middle schools for opportunities like that. Middle schools often have homework clubs where high schools students help tutor kids struggling in various areas a couple days after school every week. If you're in your school's NHS, see if that offers a tutoring service. Both these options would be unpaid, of course.

If you know someone who needs a tutor, you could offer to tutor them for a small fee. I have a friend who self-advertised as an independent tutor and charges $20 per hour for her tutoring.
