TV in Dorm?

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I guess my situation is a little different so I figured it’s worth asking.

I have a 26in TV lying around at home, since we got a new one when it broke. My dad recently fixed the 26in one, so my parents said I can bring it to college if I want. The thing is, I have a sister who is also going to be a freshman this year, who will take it if I don’t want it. (I just get first dibs on it since my college is farther away, so it’d be easier for my parents to help my sister decide on and buy a TV id she decides to get one)

I didn’t even think of bringing a TV until they offered up the old one, so I realize that I don’t need it. My dorm has a TV in the common room on the first floor, but each room has cable. I’m not a gamer and neither is my roommate, so it’d be used primarily for watching TV and movies.

I suppose my question is- if money and space were of no concern, would you bring a TV to college?

No. I have told my son the same thing. If you want to watch TV at Uni, go down to the student lounge in your dorm and watch it there. That will help you make friends easier.

If u like watching TV, then sure, why not?

Good point @londondad
Thanks for the reply @suzyQ7

I talked to my roommate, and she doesn’t care either way. I think I’m going to leave it at home- I can always bring it back after Thanksgiving break if I miss having one!

There are a lot of opportunities to socialize in college. I don’t see the need to go down to lounge to watch tv to do so. By all means, do that if you want (you can do that even with a tv in your room). Allows you to watch tv or a movie when you want. Can be by yourself, with your roommate or friends. At this point, TVs are pretty cheap and easy to transport.

Personally, no. On the rare occasion that I want to watch a show in real time, I’ll go to the lounge. Otherwise, I just watch shows/movies on my laptop.

I probably wouldn’t get a TV simply because I watch all my shows and movies online anyways. The TV would just take up space and make my room a magnet for people to come by when I want to study or be alone or whatever.
However every person is different so if you’re a cable watching person and would like a more social room then you may want to keep the TV.

For space issues, I’d say no. I’m not a big TV-watcher myself, but most people I know just watch stuff online. Also, unfortunately there’s a lot of drama in my dorm with regards to fighting over the lounge TV.

Besides space issues and reducing your friends-making time, many people watch TV (or Netflix - don’t do this) to procrastinate what they actually need to do, which is probably studying.

This depends on you. I mostly don’t watch T.V, just shows on Netflix or YouTube. If you watch alot of T.V, then take it. otherwise, i think it’s a distraction and a waste of space.
