TV Questions

Just wondering if most Amherst students bring televisions to campus and set them up in their rooms. Is cable hookup in dorm rooms available, and if so, what is the cost per month? I’m not sure if it is worth bringing a tv to campus (at least for the first semester). Do most students have any time for tele? I am more interested in following college/pro sports. Thanks!!

Cable is free in every room. Different parts of campus have different cable services based on location and what is offered. Some have TV’s some don’t. D had one and loved it! There are TV’s in the common rooms, and a lot of kids watch on their computers now. D loved having hers, since she always used it for background noise when studying, etc., also. This way if there was something she wanted to watch, she didn’t have to worry about what others wanted to watch on the common TV.

ejr1 thanks for your quick response…much appreciated!

Do you know if the tv’s have to be the newer digital sets or does Amherst/cable company provide a digital converter box with remote. This may tell me if I need to bring a newer tv or one of our older sets. Thanks!!

They don’t provide any boxes…so I guess you need a digital TV? I’m not really sure. It is handy to have free cable, although this year I just watched shows on my laptop since I didn’t have a TV. The previous year my roommate had a TV. I don’t recommend trying to keep up with a lot of shows, though; you’ll have so many other things to do!

No converter boxes. Needs to be cable ready TV.
