TV/Telephone Bill

I just heard that I would have to pay a monthly phone bill if I were to bring my own land phone to Duke? Is that true, because if so, I'll just stick to my cell...

Also, if I'm not going to be purchasing the cable service, would broadcast television cost anything (just plugging it in, and enjoying the typical 8-10 channel set)?

if you just plug the TV in you will get some channels but not ABC, NBC, CBS, or any of the normal stuff.

I don't know anyone with a land phone at Duke...what's the point if you have a cell phone?

You won't get ABC, NBC or CBSSSS???? What do I have to do to get that??

Basically you either have to pay the $32 (I think) a month, or use the common room. It's not that bad if you use it often.

i found the common room to be a great place to watch TV....i never felt like i needed a TV in my room.

Wow, that's new. So let's just say I want a tv in my room, is there a link where I can register for the basic cable? How do I go about getting it?

<a href="https://webacct.acpub.duke.edu/online/%5B/url%5D">https://webacct.acpub.duke.edu/online/</a></p>

There's the link to the online services site...it's kinda tricky to find, but if you search around you can find where to register for cable. I wouldn't worry about it until you get there though, bc everyone gets the first few weeks of cable service free.

Ohhh!!! That's so great! You made my day! I'll enjoy those 1st few weeks. But if there's no ABC (i.e. no Desperate Housewives), I'll definitely have to order cable, even though my financial aid prolly won't cover it, right? Oh well; desperate times call for desperate measures. But when u watch TV in the commons, how does everyone agree on which show/movie to watch??

It's generally first come, first served... though if there's one person in the common room watching something, and a bunch of people come in and ask to use the television, they can usually take over.

Haha; if Desperate Housewives is what you're worried about, don't even think about it. That's ALWAYS on in a commons room - even if for some reason it's not on in yours, it'll be on in the commons in the building next door. Desperate, Grey's Anatomy, 24, Lost, Family Guy, and House are shows that you can always count on seeing in SOMEONE'S commons room. Oh, and basketball games, OF COURSE.

wow all the shows you just named are like my all time favorites
