TV's in Dorm

In an earlier thread I remember reading that cable TV at Duke really is not that many channels. I was wondering about the details of this? What comes with basic TV? What do you get with Cable?

Do a lot of kids not even have TV's in their dorm room and just use the commons room tv?

<a href="http://oit.duke.edu/phones-pagers/student/tv-cable/cable/available_packages/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://oit.duke.edu/phones-pagers/student/tv-cable/cable/available_packages/index.html</a></p>

um... i'd say about 75% of people have TVs but only about 25% have cable... atleast freshman year. the others use it for video games, movies, whatever.

Do even the people in smaller rooms have TVs?

um.. depends if they want TVs... space can always be made.

I'd say if you're someone who just watches a few shows a week...popular ones like Grey's, DH, House, 24, things of that nature...you could definitely just go use the common room TV. Those kinds of shows as well as any Duke games/big games in general were always on in my freshman dorm.

I had a TV because, well, I watch movies religiously when I'm bored, and am one of those people who has to have the TV on for 15 minutes or so in bed to fall asleep. If you anticipate those kinds of things, I'd think about a TV...it's about $32 a month or so but if you use it it's not that bad. If you think you'll just be sticking to a few shows a week, the common room should be fine.
