TVs in Dorms?

I was looking through the Chicago website about furnishings and I noticed that they didn't mention anything about a television or cable hookups.

Is it possible to have a TV in your dorm? Or do most people end up not?

From the "your guide to the college house system" brochure that we received with our admittance packet:

"You may bring electric clocks, hair dryers, razors, electric blankets, and audio and video equipment if in good repair".

...these listed rules are universal for the UofC housing system, so I guess we can.

Lol - It would be kind of annoying to show up at my dorm, lugging a TV only to find out that there's no hookup. I'm not sure what I'd do with it...maybe a subpar mirror? Footrest?

some dorms have Comcast cable hookups... im pretty sure all of Max P. and BJ do, not sure about the other ones.... dont quote me on this, though

What about Broadview? Does the school have its own cable system? How much does it cost to have cable?

I am pretty sure all rooms have cable (they probobly ran it with ethernet in teh older dorms and they all have ethernet) but you ahve to pay for it. Paying for cable for just your dorm room seems silly. Even having a TV with an antenna seems silly. Movies can be watched on your computer and everything else, you can go to your house lounge which has cable and a bigger tv than you would have in your dorm...

Not a lot of students have TV's for the various reasons Otto mentioned. Between lounges and computers there are lots of ways to see stuff on a screen that don't involve taking up a bunch of desk space in your room. I think the Shoreland might be an exception??? since there's excess space there. Also, you have to pay for cable in your own room. Many houses get cable in their lounge.
