Becky, I don't yet know where I'll be next year. I'm still waiting for a few decisions and financial aid.
On another thread, you said twice that the beginnings of Wienawski's Second and St.-Saens's 3rd Violin Concertos are very similar. Sorry to bring it up in an unrelated forum, but I'm still scratching my head. I've played the S-S, and the orchestra part to the Wienawski, and I just don't see the resemblance! Oh well... Again, best of luck with the coming decisions and with coming off of any waitlists you may choose to join.

I will record the beginnings of both and explain my reasoning! Let me see if I can explain without the audio first, though...nope. I'd have to sing them (haha I was just humming to myself the beginnings of both).

And digmedia-so glad to hear you and your family are enjoying the music!! :)

Becky, in regards to your posting:
Further updates:
-Rejected from Northwestern
-Waitlisted at Oberlin
-Waitlisted at Barnard
-Waitlisted at Brandeis

I firmly believe that a lot of schools will waitlist a kid that they believe is going to be accepted and attending other schools that are higher up the food chain for whatever reason.... they do this to protect their yield and I think you are caught in exactly that position. Until all the results are in, do not panic over the waitlists... or rejections. Some schools require you to demonstrate real interest... and perhaps your enthusiasm over Northwestern was not strong enough for them to waitlist/accept you..... keep the faith and enjoy any and all acceptances that come your way... I believe that your passion has come across positively at more than 1 or 2 schools and you will have some news worth singing about soon..... I am keeping my fingers crossed for New Haven.... but regardless, you will do just fine cause wherever YOU go, YOU will be there....

Becky, I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you during this week. Keep your chin up and I'm sure good things are coming your way!

Thanks, grace. Good luck to you, too!!

I got your note, Frecklybecky. Hang in there. If you want to know more about what I know about the teachers you will consider, let me know. All fingers and toes are crossed!

Thanks, lorelei!

Fiddlefrog - here is my explanation. WARNING: reeeally bad quality recording. (the device, not my singing :D) turn down speakers. is loud! http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=39I88O9VRMS9K190CZMST8YT08

love, f.b.

ugg, i know i'm updating again about the music, but i just wanted to say that i love the wienawski. like, LOVE. it's probably my favorite violin concerto. i could listen to it again and again (and, in fact, had to endure it again and again when my brother was learning it).

Accepted: University of Michigan
Waitlisted: Yale, Oberlin, Johns Hopkins University, Barnard, Brandeis
Rejected: Harvard, Brown, Columbia, UPenn, Tufts, Northwestern, Berkeley, Juilliard

...waiting for Princeton and Stanford. Am doubtful about both. Anyway, parents, friends, and internet chums, that is that.

Oh honey,

I am sorry that you experienced so many rejections and waitlistings! It seems that Oberlin waitlisted a TON of students this year! The University of Michigan is a terrific school! If you end up attending there, I think you will find it a wonderful place full of tons of excitement!

I am crossing everything for acceptances from Princeton and/or Stanford. My son is waiting on Stanford as well.

You are a wonderful, bright, lovely, and VERY talented young lady. The world is at your feet, sweetie!

love, ~berurah

Frecklybeckly:

It must hurt getting rejections and being waitlisted. Cyberhugs to you. But Michigan is a wonderful school in a great town. It's better than some of the schools that either waitlisted or rejected you. You can only attend one school, and Michigan is great.

Michigan IS a great school, Becky. Every student I've ever met from there absolutely loves it. Things do have a way of working out for the best though it probably does not seem that way today. I know you're hurting. Hugs to you.

Hi Becky,
Sorry about the waitlistings. But as others said, UMich is a great school. Good luck!! You are incredibly talented.

Hi Becky -

Those idiots at your WL and Rej schools have their HUTAs. But I think I know what happened. They must have filled their quota this year of the "mountains-of-red-hair" students. But, like the others have said, UMich is an absolutely awesome school. As I said in another thread about when I worked at Bell Labs, we had a set of top schools that we would send our people to for grad school (Brown, MIT, etc.). Univ. of Mich was in that top group.

Dear frecklybeckly,

I am sorry for your negative experience this week. But I maintain my opinion that you are an interesting and strong person who will be a terrific success in life! :)

Frecklybeckly,
Hugs to you. I know the waitlists and rejections are very disappointing. I wish you good luck on the places that you haven't heard from.

Michigan, however, is a terrific university with a variety of interesting academic, social and extracurricular opportunities and wonderfully strong school spirit. It was my older S's first choice from a very young age, though he ended up not going there because of not getting the financial aid he wanted. He would have happily chosen it over an Ivy (though he didn't get that chance because the one Ivy that he applied to, Columbia, rejected him!).

Frecklybeckly, clearly you are being tested, and we are all so sorry it has come down like this. You will love Michigan and be so glad you wound up there. You have lots of fans out here, and we are sending mega-positive vibes your way.

I sent you a private message

I am looking forward to hearing your rendition of "Hail to the Victors."

Go Michigan - it's a great school and you will have a great experience there.

Becky, I sent you a pm too.
