Okay, I just sent in two applications for Bucknell and Colgate this afternoon, when they were due 12:00 last night. I know this sounds like the lamest possible excuse, but my internet had been out from the beginning of yesterday until noon today. Should I bother sending both of them an e-mail explicating the circumstances? Or will that just draw attention to the fact that I did submit them late? Thanks for any help.

I would let it go. It would look like a lame excuse and wouldn’t be believed. You had weeks and months to prepare, yet you waited until the last possible minute (and late at that) to complete the applications. You should leave things alone and see what happens.

I wouldn’t worry about it. I submitted applications to UChicago and Rice almost 2 days late (don’t ask) and they were still accepted by the schools in question.

Okay guys, thanks for the help. I found out my friend’s sister got into Cornell early after handing it in 2 days late, so I’m fine.

Yes, I would contact them – but I would do the mature thing and call rather than send an e-mail. I sent in one of my applications late due to a similar problem and the college was willing to review it simply because I called them and apologized. Had I not done that, I wouldn’t have been considered. And it’s simply the more mature, responsible thing to do.
