Two Asians. Who has better chance?

Two Asian girls: same school, both rising juniors, but different activities and stats. Who has a better chance of getting into a top 5 school and why do you think so?

Girl #1: 4.0 unweighted GPA, Rank 6, 1 A- total (junior year), followed regular honors curriculum (6 APs after junior year)
Test Scores: PSAT (220), SAT (2250 best, will retake in October-3rd time), SAT IIs: 750/780/800 (took legitimate ones, not like Chinese), APs: 4/5
Activities: JV Tennis, JSA (president), FBLA (president), Model UN (leadership, but not captain), 200+ hours of community service, piano and tuba (stoppped taking lessons for both after sophomore year and stopped practicing, but will probably list both in college apps as having been done all four years of hs)

Girls #2: 3.97 unweighted GPA, Rank 3, 1 B+ and 3A- total (all junior year), took many advanced classes (tested out of regular math and science classes to get ahead) (8 APs after junior year)
Test Scores: PSAT (232), SAT (2350-2nd time), SAT IIs: 750/800/800 (one 800 was from Chinese, and she's Chinese), APs: 4/4/5
Activities: Mock Trial, JSA, Model UN, Music Club (all top leadership position: either president or captain; she barely spends any time on Music Club though, that club is a disaster), Piano (regional awards), Scientific research, takes classes during summer at local CC, Girls State, 700+ hours of community service

It depends whether they both are passionate in their activities or not.
Anyways, the college process is rigged, so it can be pretty unpredictable since they're both nearly on the same level, along with many other things like their college essay, legacy, and the adcom's mood

bump? (10 char)

Also, I meant "both rising SENIORS"

Based on what you provided only, #2.

2 for sure--Higher rank (that's what matters, not UW GPA), higher SAT, higher SAT 2s (don't whine about "legitimate"--in any case, her top 2 beat your top 2), more APs, more leadership, lots more community service, regional recognition (for piano).

Yep, everything Force13 said. I vote for girl #2.

2...damn how does somenoe get 700+ hours

thanks for the input guys.

so the 3 A-s and 1B+ don't matter at all?

on a side note, girl 1 has a lot more time to hang out with friends, etc. while girl 2 gets very little sleep and works her butt off everyday. can you guys tell by their activities?

a little bit, perhaps by all the community service...but it wouldnt matter very much to me if i was an adcom

Obviously #2

Hmmm...it appears that #2 has a slight edge, so I think decision comes down not solely based upon SATs but teacher recommendations and--very importantly--AWARDS. What awards has each garnered?

how does girl #2 have a "top leadership position (either president or captain)" in JSA if girl #1 is president?

neither if they're Asian and do piano. just kidding

(I'm Asian and I do piano haha)

but really probably 2 not because her SAT scores beat out 1 by an insignificant 100 points but because her rank is better too and she has more devotion to her EC's. (ex- regional awards in piano)

thanks for all the input!

neither has significant awards, well significant by CC standards, meaning state or national.

JSA co-presidents. =] I knew that would come up. You guys are sharp.

about the legitimacy of SATs.

Girl 2 took chinese sat ii and she's full chinese-born in china. She got an 800. won't that be looked down upon?

that sad, girl 1 is chinese also and even with 10+ years of chinese school couldn't get an 800 for her life. so instead she took Spanish and got a 780. isn't that good enough? i mean, spanish isn't her native tongue.

i just think its pretty sad that this is used as a forum for competition-worry about yourself and ur own crap seriously. btw, girl 2 pwns u girl 1-- not sure why u need us to tell u that, its pretty obvious-- science research is the **** these days

2... 10 chars

wow, i sense some hostility.

sorry, i honestly didn't know. one had a better gpa, the other had better ECs, except they weren't "exceptional" in the sense that she won a lot of awards or anything.

well thanks for all the input. what schools should each be looking at? what caliber? thanks.

yah....neither really. they sound the same. besides the amount of community service they do, there's not anything exceptional. the most the second girl reached was regional. unless they convey true passion and dedication for community service or club, it'll be hard. but it really depends on the schools they're trying to get into. for hyps, it's gonna be tough b/c there are plenty of applicants that have their qualifications. for others, it'll be easier with great grades, rank, and really really good SAT scores.
