Two Asians. Who has better chance?

just wondering, how do you convey "true passion" for an activity? is it through your essays or your interview?

Are you referring to yourself in the third person? =)
But sorry, girl 2 is better than you, I think because of the SATs + SAT II's and the 700 hours.

Spread out over a year, she'd have to work almost 2 hours a DAY everyday.
That's crazy.

I would have to agree with everyone else that Girl 2 stands a better chance than Girl 1 (you? lol) just based on her ECs, community service, Girls State, and test scores/rank.

But seeing that it's already the summer before your senior year, there's not that much you can do to spice up your app other than what you've already accomplished. Good luck on that SAT, since you're retaking it, but honestly, a 2250 is fine, you don't have to take it again.

And to answer your question about conveying true passion, yes, you would do that through your essays and interviews. Essay topics are typically very open ended and you could definitely fit your whatever you're passionate about in those. So ace those, and you definitely have a great shot (although just based on these other aforementioned factors, girl 2 stands a better chance, but with essays, who knows?)

Another thing, I'm from Cali so I would say both of you are past the UC level (even Cal would be a match...if you're from CA). Both of you should definitely consider some privates. HYP is a reach for everyone, but personally I think Girl 2 stands a great chance at those Ivies, assuming her essay is well written (it can make or break you).

Also, about the SAT Chinese. Like you said, Girl 1 couldn't get an 800 for her life, and I think colleges take that into consideration. Being a native born Chinese does not guarentee that you can get a perfect score on that language test (the curve is ridiculously hard, miss one and an 800 is out of your reach), so personally I think it's still quite an accomplishment to get that perfect score regardless of whether you are Chinese. I know plenty of Chinese kids who refuse to speak Chinese and like you, couldn't get an 800 if their lives depended on it. But good job on your 780 Spanish also! It's a great score.

Good luck!

thanks for all the replies.

what about specific schools each girl should look at/aim for?

thanks.

and does girl 2 honestly stand "a good chance at those Ivies" (what lydia423 said)?

Number 2 would obviously be much better. Her numbers are only slightly worse [GPA]... it will hardly make a difference, since her EC's are 10x better.

I missed the part where the OP specifically stated that she was girl #1. while I understand how many might infer that, I think it was wrong to attack her in the ways some posters did.

I'm sorry, you lost me to fantasy after "Two Asians."

^^^^^ Perv... only kidding, I thought the same thing.

thanks Xeneise.

also, if anyone else can give some input about what caliber schools each should be looking at/aiming for, that would be superb.

thanks!

Me again.
Does everyone just agree mainly with what lydia423 (the really long post) said? Is that why there aren't many other posts?
Also, what caliber schools can each be looking at?
