I flunked my at my first community college (GPA went terrible, got academically dismissed).

Now I'm at another c.c with a fresh GPA and some transferred credits.. when I try to transfer to a 4 year, how much will my old transcript play into my acceptance?

I fit your situation and also flunked my classes in CCCs a few years ago. ~65 units A’s and 0.5 unit B in the last 2 years. ~30 units all F’s in the years before those, with an overall cumulative around 2.6 - 2.7

The difference is that I didn’t petition for academic dismissal whereas you will have. I was rejected from UCLA, UCI, UCSD. UCR and UCM are fence sitting (and asked for official transcripts). Biochemistry might be a competitive major.

The toughest challenge may be getting your application to be looked at seriously. I am guessing schools which receive tens of thousands of applications have some standardized admissions process. Someone I know who claims to have read UC admissions essays says it is likely that the personal statement won’t be read past the first paragraph (as it is mainly a test of literacy).

You may need to be pragmatic with your class choice. Find out in advance from UC schools you wish to apply to whether anything in your record would be grounds for an auto rejection. Your past might come into play but don’t let that deter you, it just means you need to understand the system you’re up against. There are also other school choices you can apply to, such as LACs. Good luck.

Hey I did pretty bad in my first two years ago cc. First of all, I took non transferable courses that I did not need (thanks for my counselor). When I did take transferable courses, I failed some of them (I failed two classes TWICE and two classes once, I know I look like an idiot, but I had a family death during one semester), but I took them over again and got A’s and B’s.

Since the non transferable courses that I took, they will not count into my GPA, but will the uc’s look at those courses?? Thank you.
