I am passing through the area. What to see? What to do? TIA
We were there 13 years ago and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the Pink Jeep tour. Did some hiking. Ate at fantastic restaurants. I think I looked on Tripadvisor for Sedona’s top 10 restaurants and we probably hit about 5 of them. I’m sure the Top 10 list has changed in 13 years, but it guided us well.

We are not christian but walking up to the Chapel of the Holy Cross was very interesting. The whole area is beautiful. Be sure to enjoy the sunset

We visit Sedona a lot. I recommend Casa Sedona restaurant for a romantic meal or trying the rattlesnake at the Cowboy Club. The Pink Jeep Broken Arrow tour is the best, but not recommended for anyone who has back trouble.

Activities depend on your fitness level and interests. For sure check out Tlaquepaque - it’s a cute outdoor shopping village and worth a couple hours of wandering around plus you can grab lunch or dinner there.
Bell Rock is one of the classic and relatively easy hikes. Cathedral Rock is more rugged but has that iconic view of a mountain with a river in front. Devil’s Bridge is another iconic hike - at the top you get to walk out over a red rock arch.
If you have kids then Slide Rock is fun if the weather is warm - it’s basically a shallow river with natural water slides.
The Pink Jeep (and others) tours are great as mentioned. If you have an SUV you can take a drive down Schnebly Hill road - it follows a creek that’s dry in summer but might have water if it’s been raining.
Oh if you’re the adventurous type you can also rent an ATV and go on your own self-guided off-road tour. The various companies that offer rentals include detailed maps to follow. When I did it with D we ended covered in red dust, so build in time to take a shower and change afterwards.

We were in Sedona this spring. There was so much rain over the winter that the rivers were overflowing.
Bell Rock is a nice scenic walk but parking can be tough. There are lots on both sides, so if one is full, you might check out the other. Pay close attention for where to turn if you want to do just Bell Rock. We kept walking and ended up doing the Courthouse trail. It was beautiful but much longer than what we had intended.
Parking for the chapel was a nightmare. Parking was on one side of the road (going up). The lot at the top was reserved for handicapped parking. On the way down, you can’t U turn to park so, if you see a parking spot heading up, grab it.
We paid to get into the Cathedral Rock parking. That was a nice walk and nice view, with the river in the foreground. We drove up to the airport overlook to watch the sunset. It was packed and, in my opinion, not worth it.
We went to a couple of Lisa Dahl restaurants. The food was great. If you are interested, you should make reservations in advance.

My idea of a good time in Sedona is checking into a Creekside Cottage at L’Auberge, no hiking, shopping, sightseeing, or Jeep tours necessary, just beauty, relaxation, and fantastic food. The spa there is heaven.

I visited Sedona this spring for the first time in a dozen years. My dad used to live nearby and we would go into Sedona often. I was surprised how much it has grown and how congested it was. Still a beautiful place, of course, but not at relaxing as it used to be.

Totally agree - we’ve been visiting occasionally for the past 20 years since we live in Phoenix. The amount of growth especially in the last 10 years is shocking.
Traffic, congestion, and lack of parking are definitely now a thing.

Traffic is fine if you avoid the weekend. We like the West Fork trail in Oak Creek Canyon and enjoyed Devils Bridge as well.
I second the Hideaway House for lunch. The lemonade!!

I was there a number of years ago but what I remember was great hiking – just an unusually beautiful spot – and rather funny new-agey things in the town. There were billboards from purveyors of crystals with spiritual properties and card-readers claiming that they and not there competitors were the real deal. I’ve never seen that anywhere else. We pretty much ignored everything but the hiking.
