two english courses

did anyone not finish two english courses? my school only requires 1 english course (english 101)... and i didnt know i had to complete two english course for transfer. would this affect me? my school is semester based. being that the school im trying to transfer to is quarter, will that one semester english course take up the requirement?

I'm kind of in the same boat, 'cept...sort of not? I'm an English major, but I was confused about the IGETC vs. major requirements, so I didn't take what you would call English 101. However, I did take classes that required it as a prereq, so I imagine I'm in a tougher spot than you in that respect since I need it, hahaha.

I'm not as experienced as the other members on the thread, so maybe I'm wrong about this, but I've been lurking for some time, so here are my thoughts:

So you only need one more English course, right? I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just update your application and mention that you plan to take the second course before transferring, preferably in Spring. I don't think it'll hurt you as long as you intend to do it prior to transfer.

dbguy4eva,

No, a one semester English 101 class at CC doesn't count as two English classes at a quarter-based UC.

Just take the extra English class in Spring and knock it out and press on.

Good luck!

Im in quarter system.
I have taken 101 and 105( Research writing)
computer engineering major
What about that?

well the problem is... i'm already about to take 19 units and most of them are core classes for my school's civil engineering at csuf, i was planning on taking a second english course and having a total of 21 units, but im not sure which course is transferable because none of the courses says if its transferable or not. i was planning on taking intro to creative writing.

Hmm...I think the second course is either a composition course or critical thinking. I'm assuming it's the latter. I think for now, one of the things you can do is take a course with a title of some sort that indicates this. Another would probably be to explain this in the comments field. It's a shame that assist.org doesn't say anything. My condolences to you.

anvilfactory, I would tell him to pick the former over the latter. He's a civil engineering major and his courses already involve a decent chunk of critical thinking. When I filled mine out, I looked online to determine which courses would fulfill the ELWR, and I was able to use English-1A and English-1B (both of which are composition).

I meant to say that there are English courses listed under the Critical Thinking category that might transfer. I do agree however that 1B is probably the best option. If English 102 is available, I assume that's what qualifies as another composition course. I hadn't known prior to my post that by English courses, dbguy4eva specifically meant composition courses. Though judging from CSU Fullerton's site, a 102 doesn't exist. I think though that 301 would qualify as a composition course since it seems to be the continuation of 101.

If anyone else wants to look: English, Comparative Literature and Linguistics Department

hmm. 301. dang. so you think i might have to take that? but if you were talking about the oral communication and critial thinking, ive taken them both. i've taken public speaking and psychology 110. but i guess it has to be "ENGLISH" right? so 301 seems like the course i might have to take even tho its a more upper division course =</p>

I thought it looked kind of hardcore myself, so I'm really not sure. ;; But yeah, I was talking about oral communication and critical thinking earlier. Though when I said it, I wasn't aware that you were looking at this: HSSEAS Undergraduate Programs, since my head is filled with only IGETC, which is so much easier compared to the things you engineers have to do. Wonder if anyone else will be able to confirm or deny this English 301 thing. o_o

yeah i hope so. thanks a lot for your help though. i've emailed UCLA, so i'm just waiting for their response.

The person that works at the Engineering Department at UCLA hasn't responded to my email, should I send another email?
