Child #2 will be a freshman starting Summer B at a Florida University. When I started on the FAFSA site, it indicated for students starting in summer to contact the school to find out which FAFSA to complete (12-13) or (13-14). Since School starts June 20 something and the 13-14 FAFSA covers the period starting July 1, 2013....the one school I checked with (out of 4) indicated that we would have to fill out BOTH FAFSAs. Does that sound right? Has anyone else had to fill out 2 FAFSAs for one child for a situation where they started in the summer session? Thanks.

Yes. For most schools, the summer semester is part of the preceding school year for financial aid purposes. So you would have to complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA for the summer and then the 2013-2014 FAFSA for the following school year.

I would expect this to be the case for most of your schools. There are some schools where summer is a “header”, meaning it is part of the following school year.

Thank you for confirming that. I have a 2012-2013 I submitted for my daughter, but of course some of the information (day to day balances on bank accounts) will change.
