two foreign languages?

i'm wondering if it's possible to manage two foreign languages/how hard it is. i've take french for the past 5 years(8-12th grade). however, i'm not very good at it and i only managed to place in french 105, which is good enough for me because i always struggled with it. i'm very interested in studying abroad in france for a summer. i also speak/read/write arabic quite well because i'm from egypt and i still speak it everyday. however, i speak the egyptian dialect which is a bit different from the modern standard arabic taught/used in government jobs. also, does anyone know how i would take an arabic placement test?

You can absolutely take 2 foreign languages. I did Japanese and Chinese… that’s a combination I wouldn’t necessarily recommend and Chinese won out in the end.

If I were you, I’d cut your losses with French. You can study abroad there without taking any more language classes (I think). Arabic is a great language to pursue and our East Asian studies department is the bomb. I just graduated with that major.

To take a placement test, email Lori at east asian studies and ask to set one up. It’ll be the first few days before classes. Don’t stress about it, it’s just to figure out where to place you.

Right now the languages that are in high demand are Arabic, Chinese, Hindi/urdu, and Spanish for different reasons. If you were able to speak Arabic and Chinese upon graduation you’d be in very, very good shape.
