So glad to hear things are looking up for you! Good luck!!!

Wonderful news! So glad to hear that things are looking up for you.

Please don’t be so angry. Many FA offices are totally swamped this year. Families that used to be able to pay suddenly cannot – no one is being “mean” – there just aren’t enough jobs or campus dollars for all the students who need them.

Olymom, I understand that, but things wouldn’t be as bad if things hadn’t been messed up on their part in the first place, mainly having my loans taken away for not completing requirements when I had everything completed and turned in before the semester started, then giving me the wrong info/not following through when trying to get them reinstated.

The FA officers and director may be swamped…but I’m certain their work study employees or assistant counselors could’ve replied to my emails or returned my calls when I was concerned about why my loans were never reinstated on time. I KNOW they’re not busy…I see them on facebook at the front desk & front offices every time I visit the office.

Also, I’m somewhat bothered by the fact that they are trying to convince me I wouldn’t have a financial hardship from a work study reduction even though I have a huge gap even with maxed out loans…and when I ask what they can do to help me, they respond with “well, you don’t have student loans, just get those reinstated.”

THAT whole situation was a bit ridiculous. I don’t know who’s fault it is, but I don’t think I did anything wrong in either of those situations.

Besides the point - all is well for the time being. I’m just being hopeful for next semester. Hopefully I’ll find some way to just get back the money lost from Work Study…either by getting a new, non FWS job, or being chosen to stay in my current job without WS, or just getting some form of additional aid that is realistic. Thanks for your help with the loan suggestions :)

Some advice on the work study: Forget it. It’s a small amount, and you can make a lot more per hour on your own than in some clerical position in the school.

Back when I was in school, I found that waiting tables in a nearby restaurant could bring in a surprisingly nice stream of cash - far more than any work-study job, and without all the silliness involved in dealing with the school bureaucracy (which also takes time and effort). It was also lots of fun!

If that doesn’t sound like a good choice, fill in the blank with some other local job. It doesn’t need to involve the school. There always jobs in college towns. You can even create your own - student painter, for example. As Nike says, Just do it!
