I’ll be attending Harvard University in the Fall. I was wondering: is it possible to take two language courses (Spanish and an African language course) as a neurobiology major/concentration?
Yes, although highly unlikely to do 2 in freshman year, especially if you are assigned Expos 20 in the Fall. In subsequent years, it’s possible, but will most probably require 5 courses in at least some semesters if you’re trying to take both languages the same semester… Your adviser will help guide you through the course selection process once you arrive on campus. Congrats on your admission.
Many freshman take a language course in freshman year, because their foreign language requirement was not waived. But there won’t be much room for electives. I would sit down and write out the requirements for your concentration, the gen eds and other courses you might want, and see how much room there is.
You could also take languages outside of Harvard. The Goethe Institute is excellent, the Cambridge Center for Adult Education has language classes, many other options.
Great, thank you both!! @skieurope @compmom
