Two (!) Marshall Scholars for Hopkins.

Kurt Herzer and Rishi Mediratta are both heading to the United Kingdom next year to further their separate research interests in improving global public health.

Herzer and Mediratta were selected by the British government Dec. 1 as Marshall Scholars, two of only 40 scholars named nationwide. Funded by the British government, the scholarships provide American students the opportunity to study at any British university for two to three years, covering university fees and living expenses as well as travel fare to and from the United States.

Johns Hopkins Gazette Marshall Scholar Announcement

Hmm, can’t say I’m too familiar with Marshall Scholars—it sounds like an awesome opportunity though, and such a great cause… minus the serious issues described, it makes me smile. Mediratta reminds me of my Spanish teacher (she’s in Guatemala volunteering right now) and how much people suffer in impoverished regions—and I’d keep blah-blahing but a. it’ll get redundant and b. I have dance soon :-. Ah well.

Anyway, wow at such a great honor to JHU and its two students.

In my opinion, the Marshall is even better than the Rhodes, because you get to choose where you go … you are not *forced *to go to Oxford. (J/K they both are amazing honors.) Kurt is actually the subject of the cover story of the most recent Arts & Sciences magazine.
