As we are rolling through various admissions events for our DD, we keep hearing from Admission Reps during their panels that there are “Two” Need-Blind schools. We know of Andover, but which school is the second? Thanks for any insight!
And yes, I have read through the historic threads on this topic. This was a ten schools admissions event, offering different information that last year’s event on the Need Blind topic!
Not all prep schools are boarding. Roxbury Latin is need-blind.
@skieurope, thanks for your response. However, this was at a “Ten Schools” Boarding school event; they were referring to a second need blind school of their own.
The plot thickens. . .
Not really; “they” are wrong. IIRC, none of the other TSAO schools were ever need-blind, and certainly Andover is the only one that currently claims it. So either the comment was misconstrued or the person gave incorrect info.
Sorry, what does IIRC mean?
If I Remember Correctly. Right? @skieurope
LOL, @anonymousia and @skieurope–I think I must be older than you! Thank you, anonymousia!
. . . So either the comment was misconstrued
Hopefully I didn’t misconstrue their comments. “There are at least two need blind schools here tonight” is what I remember being stated, IIRC . For the record, it was a rather novice crowd, myself included; most definitely not as knowledgeable as many are here.
Correct. I need to do a better job of remembering who the audience is.
We were told by an AO during an interview, that even if they say they are need blind, FA does factor in. They said that the TSAO does their initial selections, then talks about the selected FA applicants with each other to determine admission status and amount of FA. I was kind of surprised to hear that, honestly.
@gusmom2000 – yep, that’s pretty much how we heard it from another AO as well (not related to this TSAO panel). That’s why I posted the question in the first place. Confusing and also possibly misleading.
