Hi guys,
Anyone know
1) If you have to sign up for Student Search Service when you take the SAT in order to be a Presidential Scholars candidate?
2) The cutoff scores for Maryland/DC? I'm assuming Maryland is 1600...anyone know otherwise?

Thanks!

Oh, and to add to the above--anyone know how late in the year you can take the SAT and still be considered for the next year's program? Like, can you take it in October and still have the scores count?

Presidential Scholar=the biggest mixed blessing ever. Honestly, I wouldn't plan out a strategy to get nominated, because (I speak from experience) writing the 6 essays isn't THAT much fun.

justforgetme,
It is an ego thing. I go to a school where about ten out of each class of 110 are nominated. I have a 1580 on the SAT-I and an 800 on Writing, so I think if I took it again (the New one, that is), I'd have a good shot at the 1600 you need in my state.

But do you happen to know the answers to any of the above? Thanks so much.

cq

P.S. -- I love writing essays. From what I read the P.S. ones seem a bit short and uninteresting; nonetheless, expository writing gives me great pleasure and I think I might actually find that application fun. Although I could be very wrong.

just forget me, do you know the cutoff for columbus?

claret-if you feel that same way about writing essays second semester senior year, i will be very impressed. I don't know the answer to your questions, but I don't think you need to do Student Search Service (but it wouldn't hurt anything to check yes).

celebrian-I'm pretty sure that the Ohio cutoff was around 1590. I know a girl with a 1580 who didn't make it, but I doubt it'd be only 1600.

claret quilty- I'm not sure about 1), but for 2), yes, 1600 was the Maryland cutoff (I know someone with a 1590 who wasn't nominated).

did you end up making it? or when do you find out?

Me? I'm a nominee, and I've sent in my app. Not sure when I find out about semi-finalist and the rest.

oh that's exciting, I hope you make it :)
