Do they actually read your admission essays? Do the essays play a big role in admissions and help people who may not be as qualified as the mainstream applicant pull through and get accepted?

Will sending a teacher rec hurt the admission chances? It only shows that you’re trying…

To #1 yes essays are important and can help you get in if your on the line.

I wouldn’t sent the recommendations since they specificly say not to.

Good luck

Are there any good supplements to the application that would have a positive impact that would be worth the time to send, besides a recommendation? I want to show them that I’m TRULY serious about going there and academically applying myself to my fullest potential if I do, and I don’t think my transcript can do that alone. I’m quite a below average applicant.

I don’t really think essays play as big of a role as the admissions say they do. The essays, however, will help you if you are a borderline student. Either way, I think you should try to write as amazing an essay as you possibly can.

Have you been there for a college visit? Visited the specific college you’re applying to? Which college ARE you applying to?

I agree and don’t think you should send a rec. They have said countless times that they just chuck them if they receive them. I don’t see what else you can do aside from really shining through your EC’s and giving them a short explanation as to why your transcript may not be the best in the ‘extenuating circumstances’ box below the two essay questions.

Yup, I visited in early October. I didn’t get a tour, (I didn’t even know they had tours of SPECIFIC colleges… I would’ve done that) but I explored the campus on my own for about an hour. It’s a great campus in a nice little town. Definitely my first choice by a long shot.

I plan to simply apply to DGS. Chances are I’ll end up going into Psychology at some point, which UIUC is really good for (5th in the nation, if I’m not mistaken), but I don’t know that I’ll do that for sure. Education is a possibility as well.

And I won’t send a rec. =]

Thanks for the responses.

when an admissions person came to my school, they said that essays are sometimes not even looked at if a student obviously has the stats to get in. If you are borderline or are pursuing aid, then the essays are looked at more closely.

i have a question

does it matter if the transcript was sent from home or school?

i got a transcript yesterday because i thought that it would not go on the deadline. My

school sends transcript on the deadline for some reason. I don’t know why. lol

is there any sign that transcript was sent from school?

please answer me asap. cheers.

the transcript has to be sent from your school. I would assume your school would have a special envelope with your school’s return address and what not.

As long as your school postmarks the transcript by the deadline it is fine.

Yeah, seriously, my school does the same thing.

They’ll wait until November 1st to let me send anything.

…so much for applying REALLY early…
