Two questions

I was recently accepted to Rice, and am deciding between it and Middlebury. I have two questions:
1) I have heard a lot of buzz about the new rice drinking policy (pretty much all of it bad buzz), and was curious if somebody (most likely a current student who is not 21) could give me the scoop. Is the policy really that bad? Does it does it actually detract from the parites or social scene in any really significant way?--ie, less fun, fewer parties, etc. (I know this is not the only question important in deciding a college, it's just the one that I have not really been able to figure out an answer to.

2) I have also heard a lot of complaints about the attractiveness of students at rice, is this really a problem? or is it just something that everybody likes to complain about? Again, a relatively superficial contributor to a college decision, but these are the questions that I have not been able to get solid answers on.

Finally, if anybody has any general thoughts between midd and rice they would be appreciated (I am interested in bio engineering, but am in no way married to it)

Hard liquor has never been served at parties. From that standpoint, parties have not changed. The alcohol policy is and has always been simple, don’t be an idiot and we won’t bother you.

Private parties will be slightly more subdued, meaning that the door will not be open and people standing outside drinking. That being said, if a few friends and you have a small get together with alcohol and keep it in control, no one will bother you. Police do not conduct room searches.
