two questions:

1) Which dorms are nicest at Harvard? Can freshman request dorms?

2) Whats the queer social scene like at Harvard?

I think they assign everything themselves, roomate and dorm

Where did you get this information from?

Not sure about your second question, but I can answer the first one. There are three communities of freshman dorms at Harvard; one is centered directly in Harvard Yard, the other borders the yard and spans into the neighboring community, and the other sets three dorms a few blocks away, in a more residential setting. I believe each dorm has its own benefits and detriments; some are farther away from classrooms and dining, but have large suites…others are situated right on the original campus, but prone to peeping tourists and temperamental heating. Sometime at the end of this school year, prefrosh fill out a housing application online, and are encouraged to write about their “ideal roommate,” as well as answer the normal questions on lifestyle, schedule, smoking/nonsmoking, etc. The applications are thoroughly reviewed and then individuals are organized into the communities. Freshman cannot request rooms or roommates–it’s all up to the deans.

Hope that helped! If not, google freshman deans office harvard, and you will find tons more info.
