Hello, I am currently a sophomore in high school and its really complicated but, I really want to take two science APs (AP Bio and AP Environmental), but I cannot do that because I'm taking earth science this year and then chemistry next year. However, I am thinking about asking if I could take earth science and chemistry at the same time this year so junior year I can add in that extra science AP.

Do you think its possible to take two science courses at the same time? (these are regular classes, not honors)
Is it worth it to do this to take an extra science AP?

Yes it is. Earth Science is not even hard, although it sounds like it. In my district people are placed in Earth Science or Biology based on their grade in Earth Science from middle school; and even to those who got placed in Earth Science in high school because of lacking in middle school, the majority of them passed. It’s extremely doable.

As for Chemistry it may be hard, I don’t know. It really honestly depends on the teacher. Ex., my school we have 3 Chem. Hon teachers and I took it sophomore year, #1 was world-class + AP, #2 was indifferent, and #3 left the students wondering how he’s still teaching (not age, just the way he is and teaches).

What happens next? Well everyone from #1 went on to AP Chemistry, half and half of #2 went to AP Chemistry or AP Biology, and all of #3 went to AP Biology, Physics Honors here and there - and I don’t find this as a coincidence either (I am #3 and yes I’m taking AP Bio right now, if you want to know).

I suggest to double up on the science, just work hard and you will succeed (and pray for the good teacher for Chem). It’ll be worth it and doable.

I took three AP/honours science my junior year (AP chem, honours physics, and honours optics) so I think you’re fine to take two as a sophomore.
