Two Stupid Dorm Questions

Right, I'm an International Student (British) looking to attend College out there in the States. I keep coming up with these questions which I have no clue about, but are probably common knowledge to you guys! So, sorry if these two quick questions sound absolutely idiotic BUT I need to know...

1) Under the 'Room and Board' costs of attending College, what exactly is covered by 'board'? I know it will vary from school to school, but I'm trying to figure living costs into the financial calculations and it would be really handy to know just how much 'board' you get given!

2) I'm working under the assumption that dorm rooms are usually your 2-to-a-room affairs within the larger Halls... is this generally a correct assumption?

Again, sorry for asking completely silly questions but I need to know the answers! If it helps, the sorts of schools I'm look at are around the 15 - 75 range of the top 100 as rated by US News.

(P.S. Mr Moderator, if I put this in the wrong forum then sorry...)

At my uni, board is where you live. Your meal plan is an additional charge.

As a freshman at a larger university, you may be looking at a “suite”, rather than a double. Most freshman at OSU end up in Morrill tower, where they live in an 8 person suite. Typically, 8-10 to a suite, 2 bedrooms, a common room, and a bathroom.

Meal plan is the same for me: charged separately from dorm accommodations.

All the dorms at my school have at least two people to a bedroom. In two of the halls, they have 3 or 4 to a room, but the freshman halls have two to a room. Then there’s a lounge for each floor and two bathrooms, one for each wing.

room=dorm
board=food

At my school, “room and board” covers housing and a meal plan.

room = housing
board = meal plan/food

traditional college rooms are 2 person, however you may have a suite of 4 people or more, depends on each college
