For current and incoming students, does anyone know anything about the Ecology house? Positives, negatives, personal experiences, location in regards to classes, etc. I'm thinking about applying for that housing program.

For incoming students, my mom is ridiculously worried that my acceptance form will get lost in the mail. Will Cornell send an e-mail notification of some sort as soon as they receive it?

eco house is the furthest away dorm from campus.

[Hurlburt House (Ecology House), Ithaca, NY 14850 to Cornell University, 130 Stewart Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850 - Google Maps](<a href=“Google Maps”>Google Maps)

after cornell gets your acceptance form and deposit they will issue you your netid. that way you know they got it. you can always mail it certified for a few extra dollars.

The Eco House is a bit far, as Tboone said. It is also entirely comprised of doubles (if that matters to you). Each double has its own bathroom though, which sounds pretty nice.

Thanks for the responses. And thanks for the map. It does look inconveniently far. Does anyone know approximately how long it would take to get to, say, the center of the campus from the ecology house walking?
And does anyone have any more input on the social atmosphere? Do you feel that isolates you from the hub of campus?

I have friends at the eco house. Most of the people there are of the crunchy granola variety. if you like that crowd you will fit right in. The only really socially isolating dorms on campus are the townhouses because you only see 3 other people on a regular basis and balch because a lot of the residents are… balch people. You won’t be socially isolated due to your dorm, and to be honest, most of my friends I made not through my dorm, but through common interests like rock climbing, skiing, etc. There is a bus stop not to far away from the eco house and a bus runs every 10 min or so between 7am and 6pm from there to central campus and all the way to the vet school. I would room in a regular dorm just because ecohouse is annoyingly far away but its your call. the people I know there have a great time.

another annoying thing is that it is a 10 min walk to the closest dining hall, and walk just sucks.
