Two Week Notice to Get a Campus Tour?

Does this seem reasonable? I just e-mailed the school and asked if we could just stop in for a map and do our own self-guided tour.

It depends on the college.

most won't care if you do a self-guided tour. My friend and I did that this summer without giving any notice.

Most colleges are absolutely open to wanderers and even have printable maps online. Many don't require pre-registration for guided tours or information sessions, and some (such as Yale) don't try to track students visiting classes.

Though if you are doing a self-guided tour and would like to get into the books (that is, have recorded interest in the school) do drop in and chat up the receptionist.

Another option would be to post in some online communities and see if there are students who'd be willing to show you around briefly. That way you'd get some student perspective, maybe be able to see the inside of a dorm, etc.

Good ideas! Thanks.
