One of the finest tragediennes of her day , Charlotte Chusman (1816-1876) became best known for her performances as Lady Macbeth and as Med Merrilies in the play Guy Mannering. No error

I don't know why when I paste the question, there is no underline. Anyway, the answer to this sentence is E, which is no error. But, choice A is underlined " one of the finest", which I think is wrong. Because, "tragediennes" and " Charlotte Chusman" is not the same thing. It should be changed to "One of the finest tragedy writer" or something like that. But why is it correct?

Another question:
By 1873, Coney Island was well on its way to becoming the most frequented summer resort in America, attracting crowds that number 25 to 30 thousand visitors on weekends and as many as 10 thousand midweek. No error

For this one, answer is "that number", which I know why it is wrong. But why "to becoming" is right? Shouldn't it be " to become"?

P.S this question is from CB, not the book, is the online courses.
