Two writing questions, double the fun

alright I am having fun posting these writing questions. Well not really. I am not positive about them and I want to make sure that I understand them fully. So here we go again.

A. same
b. college, they both increased the educational quality and effectiveness of the college
c. college, which both increased its educational quality as well as increased its effectiveness
d. college, these changes increased its educational quality and effectiveness
e. college, these changes increased both the educational quality and effectiveness of the college

E.
(A) the original sentence is wrong because it should be "combines" instead of combining -- it's easier to see what's wrong if you skip the phrase "taking...land")
(B) makes it sound like the reader is the one doing the combining
(C) unclear -- who is "her"?
(D) same problem as original -- "combining" should be "combines"

C
All of the rest are incorrect because they are comma splices -- they put a comma in between two sentences when they should either be connected or have a period or semicolon. C is awkward, but it the only one that is not incorrect.

ILoveBrown answered them all for you. Shucks. Stole my fun. :)
But to confirm, I agree with ILoveBrown.

i just finished test 6 last night.
these 2 questions are from test 6.

1.E
2.E

coolkid, you forgot to put the ; in d&e.

d. college; these changes increased its educational quality and effectiveness
e. college; these changes increased both the educational quality and effectiveness of the college

c is improper idiom.the 'it' in d is ambiguous, so the answer is e.

Oh. Since it's a semicolon, then I agree with the book's answer -- E is the best answer. D and E are both sort of correct, but E is much clearer.
