Two Year Gap Between High School and College

My son will be a senior this coming September and applying to various colleges. He has been thinking about, but is definitely not committed to, the possibility of volunteering to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces. My understanding is IDF volunteers serve for at least 18 months.

My question is, will colleges accept a student and reserve a place for two years after the acceptance, rather than the typical one gap year most students take before entering college?

Thank you.

You need to ask the colleges as such policies depend on the colleges.

From what I’ve seen public institutions are less likely than private ones to grant gap years.

It may be best for your S to apply to college during the second year of his military service as military service is likely to change his perspective about life and himself, and he may desire a different type of college than he does now.
