Alright, I know y’all get a million of these but I’d like to request some recommendations for college (preferably a few reach schools and safety schools in addition to other recommendations) based upon the following:
-Major is PoliSci (w/ the intent of Law school following four year degree)
-I’m considering a double major (or at minimum a minor) in an English/Business field to expand my opportunities and pursue other career paths if necessary.
-Planning on studying abroad at some point
-GPA unweighted of 3.63-3.75 cumulative throughout high school thus far (weighted is 5.15)
-SAT score is 1380 (750 Eng/ 630 Math)
-ECs: Newspaper all four years of high school; Foreign Language club (Chinese) Sophmore year on; Mock Congress Junior year on; Model UN Junior year on
-Would enjoy any size town; if you recommend based on area, please include why! I have no preference based on location and would appreciate info about the areas!
For now, please ignore cost, it will be dealt with when considering the schools you’ve recommended. Thank you!
For public schools are you in the top 7-10% of your class for UT or A&M? Both are good matches it just depends on if you get into the major of your choice as both have good programs for all majors listed. For private schools as stated above Baylor and SMU are both great options!
Then why on earth are you targeting Texas Schools, lol? Your stats will make it hard to be accepted at UT as a holistic review candidate. I think you just qualify for academic admit at A&M (not sure how that works for OOS candidates). You are good for Baylor, Trinity, SMU (maybe), TCU (maybe), U of Houston, Texas,Tech, UNT, Southwestern, Austin College (maybe). Definitely good for Texas State, SFA, Sam Houston, UTSA, UT Tyler, Tarleton.
“it will be dealt with when considering the schools you’ve recommended. Thank you!”
That’s like saying “I’m just a little pregnant, but I’ll determine how severe it is later.” Either you can afford to go out of state or you can’t. You have to make the cost determination first. Otherwise, you’re wasting a lot of time, energy and money applying to schools you can’t go to.
Sorry if my intentions weren’t clear. I just wanted a few recommendations and I’d determine whether they would fit my budget after reviewing them.
I wouldn’t be asking if I couldnt afford to go out of state!
As for why I’m looking into Texas, there are several good firms for energy law in the state that I’m interested in potentially working for in the future. I’d like to attend college in the state I’ll be practicing law in in the future, so I was interested in any Texas schools that might work for me.
I’m a huge proponent of TCU. It has stellar academics, I think you have a good shot of being accepted, and their career/internship services are phenomenal. It is located in Fort Worth which is a super cool city that has a modern portion which has a ton of fun things to do and the historic stock yards which are awesome to visit. Housing is moderately priced, restaurants are great, and you’d be close to the airport if needed. I also saw UT (too liberal), TAMU (too big), and Baylor (too many football scandals) but did not like them. I’m not too sure about the other schools in TX but I heard Texas State is nice. Good luck!
Improve your SAT or ACT and try Baylor, good for your major, beautiful campus, town affordable yet boring but you’ll be in your college bubble and Austin/Dallas/Sant Antonio/Huston not too far for weekend fun, great study abroad program, law school right there to wet your feet and see if law is really your destiny, generous financial aid and lots of merit scholarships.
Good shot at Rice, UT Austin, and SMU all will be good for your future tons of internships in the cities. Great networks for future placements and whatever your career ambitions may be.
Rice would be a reach with your current scores. By law UT has to take so many in state students at the top of their class that it is a very hard admit from out of state. Are you going to take the SAT again? Have you tried the ACT? Rice has an excellent political science program, and it is fairly easy to double major. My daughter is double majoring in Psychology and English. Rice is located in the a very nice part of Houston known as the museum district. There are lots of energy companies and many energy law jobs in Houston. https://futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Freshman_Profile.asp
I am transferring to Baylor for fall 2018 mainly because of the incredible scholarships they have. I was offered $32,000 in grants/scholarships/ need based aid + $5,000 in loans not to mention my outside scholarships my tuition is paid for. I’m not sure what your need is but I can tell you Baylor will take care of your financial needs and have great Baylor bound alliances with other states for out of state students.
I have a 3.14 GPA and want to transfer to the college of natural science. I struggled my first year and since then been getting As in all math and science coursework. Should i even bother to apply ?
