TX Tech Transfer

Couple things–
I am highly considering transferring to Tech in the fall of 2016. I am currently attending a CC and will graduate in May. My GPA when I apply will be 3.79 with lots of ongoing extracurriculars and volunteer hours, including a membership in PTK. Will I have a good chance in the honors college?
Can transfers have the honors major with the pre-med track?
Are there any Terry Transfer Scholars out there??
I see I qualify for some merit, PTK, and possible band scholarships. Is TX Tech financial aid for transfer generous? I will be paying for school myself, so that is why I ask.

Hi Courtney!! I transferred from a CC in South Texas (South Texas College) to Tech last fall. I honestly had not even considered Tech, but a history professor encouraged me to apply. I applied and 10 days later received a package in the mail telling my I qualified for a presidential transfer scholarship. With your GPA you should qualify for one as well. In addition, I was hired as a tutor at the Learning Center. I interviewed for the Terry scholarship, but alas I did not get chosen. I wrote about that in another post.
You have an excellent chance to enter the Honors College, which I STRONGLY recommend you try. In addition to the really cool classes with great profs, you get some very juicy opportunities for research and study abroad. Basically you are treated a bit different. They really take care of their Honors College students. I was able to do a research project this past semester, and I just returned from a 5 week study abroad in Seville, Spain for which Tech blessed me with $3400. I wouldn’t know about band scholarships, but give it a try. Honestly most students I speak with when I ask them why Tech as opposed to A&M or UT the answer is always financial aid. I had my heart set on A&M, but I could not say no to Tech’s offer. I do not regret it one bit & am very grateful for what they have offered me. There are truly a LOT of opportunities at Tech, especially if you are in the Honors College.
If you have any other questions about Tech, please feel free to ask.

Hey Franko!!
I am trying to transfer from four yr university.Am I eligible for transfer scholarship?

I’m a transfer and my first year at Tech. I qualified and received just two scholarships and it was more than enough for me to take 14 hours and stay on campus, with money left over for textbooks and supplies. Essentially everything was paid for. I will add they did include loans in my financial aid package but it wasn’t a max loan and my grants/scholarships easily covered tuition and fees.

As for the honors college, I had a slightly lower GPA than you but higher than the recommended 3.5 and I got wait listed and eventually rejected. I think you have a good shot, just apply and see what happens. The Honors College is pretty awesome, I’m applying again in the spring.

What darthterrapin said was the same case as mine. I had everything paid for & a few small loans, but nothing scary. I also got a job. I was also not accepted initially into the Honors College. It doesn’t matter if you are transferring from a junior college or a 4 year college. It matters how many hours you have & what your GPA is.

this link will help. Best think I can tell someone is just apply & see what they offer you. That’s what I did & I received the offer for the $9K scholarship.
Another thing since initially transferring I HAVE received other grants & scholarship for a total of an additional $3400. Life is good for me at Tech.
