****ty(ish) ACT score and good EC's for Cornell RD?

Cornell is my first choice, so I'm kinda freaking out and I just need to know ASAP. Wahhhhhh thanks for the help

Objective:

ACT (breakdown): 30 (kill me). (35 Eng, 32 I think Reading, 28 or 29 math, 27 science)
ACT superscore (breakdown): Took three times
SAT II: 740 USH, 690 Lit, 690 World His, 630 Bio, 450 French (accidentally signed up for it then realized I barely knew anything and spent the rest of the test time daydreaming about making out with my boyfriend... yeah I'm a desirable candidate for an Ivy League school)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.96
Weighted GPA: We only have UW
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Don't rank, Top 500 Public School
AP (place score in parentheses): US (4), Euro (5), Lang (5), Micro (3), Macro (4).
IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Gov, AP Psych, AP Lit, AP Bio, Pre-Calc, Adv. Journalism III, Sociology, Shakespeare, Study Hall (my counselor insisted on it...)
Number of other applicants in your school: I'm pretty sure no one else is applying.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Silver Key for Creative Writing, Columbia Scholastic Press Association Honorable Mention for Column Writing, two in-state journalism awards (first place and honorable mention), debate camp awards (first place speech, second place overall performance), school writing awards, AP Scholar with Honor (YAAAAAAYYYY!!!).

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): School newspaper (deputy editor, one of the best papers in the nation, the best in state), Young Women for Change (president of our county's chapter, raised about $2500 last year, made the organization's first grant to a lesbian-focused organization), French Society (president, founder), Philosophy Society (president, founder), WILLOW (mentor, just a school club/girl power sorta thing), NHS (member), Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Key Club
Job/Work Experience: Bagger at grocery store (15 hrs/week)
Volunteer/Community service: working for the organizations my YWFC group donates to, tutoring under-privileged inner-city kids in readin' and writin' (2 hrs'/week)
Summer activities: Have been attending the same journalism camp since 8th grade, ditto for debate camp except since 10th grade. Attended Juniper this summer (which apparently is one of the best creative writing camps along with Iowa).

Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):

Essays: I don't think anyone will tell their families about them, but I wrote about interest in social studies/journalism how they go together, short CA response about journalism, "Why I Want to go to Cornell." 8-9.
Teacher Recommendation #1: my AP Lang teacher, who likes me a decent amount but I heard post-application that her recs suck and are pretty generic. 7-8.
Teacher Recommendation #2: my chem teacher from last year... I really don't know what to expect. 7-8.
Counselor Rec: Was decent, mentioned my family's issues. 9?
Additional Rec: Nopers
Interview: Arts and Science don't have 'em!
Art Supplement: Submitted news article I wrote about teachers cheating and raising their students' standardized testing scores to avoid being fired and such. Also submitted depressing tale that a lot of the people at my writing camp liked. 9.5-10.

Other

Intended major: History, specifically Medieval History. Also expressed interest in writing for their newspaper.
State (if domestic applicant): Michigan
Country (if international applicant): n/a
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: white, Jewish (but you can't tell from my name so I don't imagine it will be significantly detrimental)
Gender: female
Income Bracket: I imagine somewhere in the 180 k range
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My counselor mentioned in his letter that my sister has a drug addiction which took a huge toll on my family. This obviously isn't a hook but judge this as you will.

Extra info: I e-mailed Cornell twice after I submitted my application to alert them of my Silver Key and a major award I won within my newspaper. Also, my GPA for senior year sem 1 was a 4.2. My friend who is at Cornell and knows quite a bit about college admissions told me Cornell is koo koo kuh razy about when kids improve over high school.

Where I applied:
Mich State (accepted)
U of Michigan EA (accepted)
U of Penn ED (rejected, and my daddy went there and his daddy taught there, shame)
Kalamazoo (accepted with half ride)
Wash U St. Louis (rejected last night, mostly applied cause they had no essay requirement. YOLO.)
Bard (eagerly awaiting their response, chance me for here if you've heard of it)
Cornell (obviously...)

So, whaddya think? Be honest. I'll chance you back!!

Thanks for the help guys!!! :’(.

Honestly, Your ECs are really good: they have focus, you show leadership and have obtained some awards. Your GPA is great; your ACT is good, definitely not bad, but not jaw dropping either - I think that and your French SAT subject are you weakest points.

That being said, I think you have a fair shot. It’s really going to come down to your essays and because of your intense writing experiences, that shouldn’t be a worry.

chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1294761-chance-me-will-chance-back.html

thank you. anyyyyyyyyyyyyyyone else?

Your ECs are decent and your GPA looks fine, but your standardized testing scores are going to hurt you. The subject test scores should ideally be 750+ or at least 700+, and I know it’s too late, but you should’ve canceled the French score when you realized you didn’t do well on it.

Cornell’s going to be a high reach, but it’s not completely impossible if you wrote great essays and have great recommendations. And look on the bright side: you already got into a fantastic school, University of Michigan, so no matter what, you’re going to end up somewhere great. :)

bump, anyone else?

I think your French Subject SAT hurt you. Seriously, your EC’s are amazingggg. I would still give you a good chance of getting in, because of that. I honestly can’t believe that Waslu rejected you, UPenn on the other hand is just tricky as one can never know… But yes I think you have a good shot at cornell! Good luck! :D

They require you to send all of your SAT II’s in. Kind of annoying… thank you though. Anyone else? :-)

To be honest, I think chances for Cornell might be slim :[ There’s quite a few people who have legacy for one or both parents as well… Good luck, though! You never know :D

Ahh, you should have hid your French score even if they technically say send everything. I usually wouldn’t be one to say that but in this case I feel like it would have been better. Your ECs are definitely your strong point since they are focused and correlate with what you seem to want to do in college. It’s also good that you sent them extra information afterwards because it makes you seem more interested. As someone mentioned before your ACT is still not terrible for Cornell so I think you’re still in the running. I see that you got rejected by WashU but that’s probably because you couldn’t express yourself in a supplement and because you probably didn’t show any interest (WashU in particular hates that).

I did email WashU a couple times with application updates, but their ACT score median is wayyy higher than what I got. Oh well. Anyone else? I appreciate the help even though there’s obviously nothing I can do to help myself at this point.

Hmmmmm. I want to see you have a good chance at Cornell (I think you do!), but I just don’t know how they will look at your SAT II’s, and how important they are to Cornell Admissions. :(

Best of luck!

I’m sure they’re fairly important… I didn’t list it on my Common App, so maybe that’ll hint that I didn’t really want to express it to them. Or whatever. Bump. Anyone else? I will chance back!!

…bump…
