On almost every chance thread I've seen has something like 'I go to a prestigious private school.' or 'I attend one of top 20 public schools in my state.'

The high school I currently attend is not private, definitely not very prestigious, and not too competitive. It's not like I can do anything about the school I go to; I was zoned for it and my parents don't have the money for a private school.

Will this hurt my chances of getting into a top college? My current top choice is Cornell.

Thank you!

It’s not exactly going to hurt your chances.
Colleges will see the courses offered at your school, and if your school doesn’t offer many APs, they won’t hold that against you.
You also will probably have less competition with other people in your school trying to get to Cornell.
However, if someone has a 3.8 at a regular school and another person has a 3.8 at a more “prestigious” school, admissions officers are going to recognize the second person’s gpa as more of an accomplishment.

hope this helps, and dont stress yourself out too much, it doesnt make that big of a difference.

Okay, thanks. My school offers around 10-12 APs. I’m planning to take probably 9 or so of those.

Yeah, I’ve seen this too. It seems like every one the forums is attending a top 10 ranked school.
