I filled out my FAFSA and I contacted my universities admissions office and they said they would be sending out the FAFSA repsonses to freshmans the first week of April. I know that I am not applicable for pell grants, but is there any other type of financial aid available through the FAFSA that is not student loans. The woman said that I would qualify for unsubsidized loans, which means the government will pay my interest on the loans until I graduate, right? But can anyone tell me if there is any other type of aid that te FAFSA covers??

Hi

At the schools my son applied to last year, they used the FAFSA to determine not only Pell Grant (Cal grant),work study, and loans, but also university grants and other scholarships.

I was pleasantly surprised. Hope you will be too.

unsubsidized loans are students loans with interest that DOES accumulate while you are in school, but you don't start paying them back until 6 months after you are out of school.

many schools require the FAFSA to award merit awards and depending on the school there may be some institutional grant money or scholarships that they award.

you will have to wait for the FA award to see what you get -- unless the college website has more detailed information.

my bad, i meant the ones that the government does pay....lol. I guess it's getting late. Thank you so much.
