ranked 25 out of 350
im from alabama
ACT 32
SAT W690 M720 R600
band, orchestra, essay contests, but no other clubs really, not much volunteer or leadership?
am i screwed?
I’m also applying early decision.

you'll know soon enough, but I'd say you've got a good shot

Alabama should be pretty helpful....i wouldnt guess that they have many kids coming from Alabama.
haha

Yeah. The rest of my class is going to either Alabama, Auburn, or other huge public schools down here and they keep ridiculing me for applying to "random" schools in Maine. But they aren't random at all. I researched carefully and decided on these schools. I'm applying to Bates, Colby, Reed, and Bennington as well. These people think I'm crazy, because no one I know has ever heard of any of these schools. Are they popular up north?
I'm really scared that I won't get into any of them. I'm dreading an interview, I'm worried that I have a Southern accent, even though I don't feel like I do. But everyone calls me the closet Alabama girl, because I completely don't belong here.

As someone who attended one of these schools (then HYPS for grad. school) this looks like a coherent list to me. Clearly you're looking for a small school where you can have a real working relationship with your profs. Of your choices, Bennington has the highest acceptance rate and is considered the most liberal. Bates and Colby are the most similar to each other.

If you haven't spent much time in the NE be prepared for a bit of culture shock. Attitudes toward religion and social issues will be different from what you are used to.

The fact that you're a 'bama girl will help you a bit with these schools but academics will be of primary importance and a good interview wouldn't hurt. Bates and Bennington do not require the SAT, so you'll want to decide whether you think your scores will help or hurt you at these schools.

Good luck.

@Oregano

Yes. Those are all well known and respected schools up here. Popular? Like any other schools they have their nitch.

Your ACT is much better than your SAT. I would not send the SAT scores unless I had to.

your stats look almost identical to mine, however substitute various sports for band and orchestra.

your act is the same as mine and your sat too! i took some sat II's though and got an 800 for biology-m so im hoping they'll notice that. :)

i think we'll be ok, lets keep our hopes up!

@skyvault
Where else are you applying?
Are you going ED on Bowdoin?

I think you definitly have a good chance. Does anyone know how some kids have already heard? There is an official bowdoin 2013 group on facebook and the wall posts by some people make me so envious!!

woah! People already know? AHHHH I'm so nervous!

CMO - I think most of the people on that facebook page are fakers (kind of bizarre). There seems to be a proliferaton of fake college sites on facebook this year . .

Yeah im applying ED to bowdoin, but also other colleges like Haverford, Wesleyan, Colorado College and such.

they should be mailing the decisions tomorrow!!!!!! :P

dont listen to the stupid "Bowdoin 2013" group on facebook, they are faking because considering we are the first ED group, theres no way others would get accepted first. haha we'll just start our own group of acceptances thats LEGIT! :)

and we'll use a better group default picture too!

Well guys, this is it! Postmarked tomorrow. GAH I am so nervous! Why do I have to live in Seattle? I will be the last to know...exept the international people or Hawaii people...or LA for that matter...

IDK Isabelle....Idaho is kinda the craps. mail takes forever to get here
has to go through a big city so it normally takes a day longer than anywhere else on the west coast.

but ya....that picture they used sucks.

those people in that group do not look legit...hahah why the heck would they pretend that they got into Bowdoin already?

they could be athletes...dont they hear earlier than everyone else?

No - athletes are admitted at the same time as other ED applicants. That facebook site is almost all fakers . . .
