So I know you have 3 hours of seminar every day, 5 days a week, so what do you do for the rest of the day? And the weekends? I know TASP is self-governed, but the descriptions are still a bit vague. I would need to prepare for the Oct. SATs and finish summer work during the time I'm at TASP, would I have a chance to do all those?
Just wondering what a typical day is like...thanks!
:)

As far as I can tell, once you do your "homework," you can use your time as you wish. I talked to a girl at my school who went and she said there was a 10-page essay due every two weeks and told me she would do it all in a day and have nothing but down time (except for smaller assignments) for the next fortnight.

I love you for using that denomination of time.

I also measure speed in furlongs per fortnight, though.

Mmm? Well I just happen to get a ton of AP work because of the classes I want to take and apparently that's how teachers roll @ our school. Quite alright, and I am not a good test taker at all and need to study~ that is all. :)

they don't have tests- I think that goes against the whole idea. Just work on your essays and hopefully we'll all see each other there.

Oh by tests I meant the SATs haha, yeah it's good that we don't get graded on the assignments and such. yay

Yep..hopefully...ah I don't know what I would do if I don't get accepted....i've invested way too much. What's the acceptance rate does anyone know?

Which program are you applying to knickerbockers?

isn't it counterproductive to apply to TASP and then study for your SATs while you're there?

A "typical day" (if there even is one) will vary significantly between each TASP location and even year to year. I can guarantee, though, that you won't have time to study for the SAT.

At UT we had five page essays assigned Monday, due Friday. On the last week it was a ten pager. The nightly readings were pretty dense too. There were definitely hellish days in terms of workload and by the third week most people were pretty sleep deprived.

I mean, you COULD study for the SATs, but if you did that on top of the TASP workload you would lose a lot of the social interaction, which is ultimately the most valuable part of the experience.

For TASP's recommendation form, is there a specific form that we can download or we just let the teachers write anything they want?

Here's what it says in the official TASP brochure:

"To the teacher or counselor: Your student is applying for a place in a six-week summer program that requires both academic skill and
social maturity. Students need the self-discipline to complete extensive preparation for daily seminars and to work on demanding writing
assignments. They will live in a small, socially intense group of talented students with considerable freedom in their daily schedule and
social interactions. We would appreciate your frank evaluation of the suitability of the student for such an environment. We will acknowledge
receipt of your letter of evaluation if you include a self-addressed postcard."

...yeah, you might have enough time to work on studying SATs and doing your summer work, depending on your seminar. However, if you do, you will have missed the point of TASP entirely.

Is TASP open for international students?

yes. Just look online.
