Typical Hopkins Student?

Ok guys. I thought i could read enough threads to get a gist of this, but i have heard humounguous ranges for the typical hopkins student. I would absolutely love to go there for international relations (undergraduate), but am not sure if i can get in. I have seen from some CC members that a 3.5 1600 out of 2400 is enough, and I have heard from others that a 3.9 and a 2200 might get you in. If you guys could quell my thoughts a bit I would be very appreciative.

i seriously doubt that anyone can get into hopkins with a 1600

The second set of numbers you described seem much more realistic for a Hopkins applicant. That's not to say that a 3.5/1600 can't happen, but it doesnt.

Right. Wasn't listing my scores only some person's "evidence" to an argument. Thanks for the input. Any other ideas, because I also don't think that Hopkins is as difficult to get into as say Ivies + Georgetown + Duke. or maybe thats just wishful thinking.

It's pretty tough. Some might argue it's as hard as some of the Ivies, Duke, and Georgetown. It's not HYPSM, but it's no slouch.

This link might be helpful. Hopkins admits 24% of applicants and the middle 50% SAT is 2010-2290.

it's a tier below the ivies in selectivity

3.9/2300 should be close to a sure thing given reasonable ecs/recs.

In terms of selectivity, it's approximately the same level as Cornell. Definitely not as selective as HYP obviously, but still quite selective.

Thanks for the help guys, especially the links to the "fast facts" page MDmom. Found out its very tough (ivy league) unless applying ED which has a much higher acceptance rate (35-45%).

depending on how you look at it, 1600/2400 can be a very, very, good thing. or it can simply be "average" as they call it.

I love how Duke's ED Acceptance rate is more than triple it's RD acceptance rate....basically Duke's saying coughDO ED* cough*

<a href="http://www.jhu.edu/%7Eadmis/pdf/2007/ed_brochure_2007.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.jhu.edu/~admis/pdf/2007/ed_brochure_2007.pdf</a></p>

It says in it that in fall 2006 48% of ED applicants made it as opposed to the 25% at RD.

So it looks like its ED for me.

bump....bump...bump

bump...any more input?

I'll tell you something about the typical Hopkins student: He/She lives in Baltimore.

Have you looked at the Hopkins forum? There are lots of posts that might interest you, including one with current ED decisions.
