I think if Americans made drinking more casual at home you would have a lot less idiot kids getting wasted at parties. If your deprived of something for the majority of your life, obviously once you can get it you consume it in excess. While this is not the case for everyone it is for a lot of people...

I don't drink, but that's because I don't like to drink. I don't think my dad would care if I had a beer would friends (even though I never would), my mom would go crazy but thats a different story lol.

oh no its weird cause he's ur interviewer. anyways, i find alcohol completely normal. i lived in england after all. had whiskey when i four and start mixing rum in to my coke when i was like 6. they should make alcohol legal for all ages, just like china. my dad doesnt care, he buys my alcohol. he would only care if i was drinking somewhere else. good thing he never finds out things...well usually.

In my school people go out clubbing at around seventh grade.
Then again, this is China, where things are a lot more lax, alcohol and smoking-wise.
It's not as big a deal here, I guess. And scubasteve is right, it's just what culture you're in. I personally don't drink or smoke, don't plan on it either.

Haha why are you talking about how strict America's policy is on drugs etc. when you're trying to go to boarding school, where you are granted NO freedom with weed or booze.

the freedom they give in america doesnt really apply to us kids, like what are we going to do with freedom of speech, start a protest, or something? not likely and it doesnt even apply at school.

the freedom they give in china, well, that's real freedom :)lol

It's not real freedom...it's just how well a kid can sneak out and fool their parents, as well as fooling the bouncers at the clubs to think that they're over 18. And this is basically only for kids in the foreign community.

the REAL chinese kids here study 24/7 because they only way they can get into a decent college is by taking the gao kao - basically a required national SAT, but that's the all the colleges here look at. In america with your prep schools and your colleges you get essays, interviews, extracurriculars, but in China it only depends on your score. The test takes 3 days and it's NERVE-WRACKING, police block off streets so test-takers won't be distracted by traffic, etc. And they're tested everything they've learned since kindergarten to 12th grade. That's why Asian parents are usually so uptight with grades, because if you're not doing well this year, when you get tested on the gao kao you won't do well either. I would think there's actually a lot less freedom for a chinese kid.

Wow! I wonder what if the wine thing during the interview was a trick to see if you'd take it or not. In my own country it will be VERY impolite of you to refuse an offer of wine because they only offer wine to people very close to them.

intrigue, I didn't know China and my country were THAT alike in academic thingy! Yep my country's in Asia and ppl are supposed to study 24/7 too haha, so they call me weirdo not doing the same thing. The only difference was that the "gao kao" in my country only tests things you study during high school. :)

Ahahha a lot, but it doesn't really bother me much anymore. People really only get annoyed when they block youtube for a period of time. But almost everyone in my school gets into a fit of rage when facebook is blocked :p which has happened a couple times, but not often anymore since there's a Chinese layout now. The most annoying part is when you're researching stuff for school and Google or wikipedia suddenly don't work :( When the government finally unblocked wikipedia after like a year everyone thought it was the greatest thing that had ever happened hahaha

It's not that bad, though. Most of the sites I use are usually never blocked, and I don't use the sites that are blocked 24/7 like xanga or livejournal.

Why do they think that they can hide every bad thing someone says about China lol. Its just not possible, I can imagine how many times wikipedia has been blocked and unblocked.

livejournal is blocked. that ridiculous. you cant go on proxy sites and stuff right? im suprised you can leave the country.

right now on wikipedia it says that china are communists, faschists, or socialists. then they talk about human rights and how the chinese government doesnt give any rights to people
