typical LSA(out of state) applicant stats are... what?

What are the typical stats of an LSA applicant, out of state?

in terms of GPA, SAT, extracurriculars, etc.

Are extracurriculars/essays/awards important for Michigan?

Thank you-

I don't know the typical out of state statistics, but I can give you mine (I'm from Indiana). Other kids to whom I have talked have had similar statistics I had 3.9UW GPA (top 10%) mostly all honors/AP, 1440 SAT I, above 700 on SAT II's, 3 sport varsity athlete in cross country, swimming, and track. (Cross Country Captain and Academic All State in Track), 1st chair viola in orchestra, various random other clubs, some with noteable accomplishments, but I really only cared about sports and music, competitive triathlete outside of school, research on panic and anxiety disorders, and I have been published in journals...Some people out of state aren't as strong, and some are much much stronger (I have met people who have gotten into schools like Yale, Stanford, Wash U, Duke, etc but ended up for whatever reason coming here). The average out of state (i am guessing) SAT for LSA is probably 1380-1400, and the gpa is like 3.7-3.8

I would say that OUT OF STATE students in the colleges of LSA and Engineering have the following stats:

SAT:
Mid 50% range: 1250-1450
Mean: 1350

GPA:
Mid 50% range: 3.7-3.9 (unweighed)
Mean: 3.85

CLASS RANK:
75% in the top 5%
95% in the top 10%

And Nirvana is quite right. Most students I knew had acceptances to other top 10-15 universities but chose Michigan. Some because they wanted to stay close to home, others because they loved Ann Arbor and the Michigan atmosphere and finally, some because they could not get a better bargain.
