The social scenes can vary A LOT.

Joining a club is probably the easiest way. You'll meet people during orientation though. Make sure to talk to the people in your small group. Also, you could join the 2013 facebook group. I met some of my best friends on facebook before arriving on campus.

There is no one social scene at Mount Holyoke. In general, though, we're not a huge party school. We're definitely not prudes -- there's drinking here, for example, though not excessively -- but we're not really wild, either. Your dorm, quad, major, orgs...all of that will really determine the social side of things for you.

Facebook's your best bet. Like frazzled, my daughter met her first MHC friends on Facebook, and when they set eyes on each other the first time, it was just like clicking a switch on and lo, there was light! Soon after we'd set up her dorm room, I presumed she was going back with me to the hotel for a day or two, but no. She kissed me goodbye, and let me go with a "You want to visit tomorrow?" My daughter's not particularly outgoing, but the atmosphere in MHC strongly welcomed her and she's never looked back. Now she's fine there and so happy!
