I was just wondering if there is a typical student at Villanova

Would an Irish-Catholic preppy southerner (not a redneck) fit in?

The word "typical" at Villanova is getting harder to quantify. I would say you get a good mix of Irish-Catholics from all over the country at 'nova-- so yes, you would find a good group of people there to call your friends! if you aren't looking for someone like yourself, 'nova is getting increasingly better at diversifying from that core image.

Absolutely. Irish and preppy basically describes the people here.

I disagree with you villanovagirl ... while of course there are Irish Catholics here ... there are plenty of people here who do not fit that sterotype. There are people of all races, nationalities etc. here. We have kids that come here from all over the world including Puerto Rico, Morocco, and India.

Of course there are other people here! I'm not denying that because there are different types of people no matter where you go. But based on my experiences here over the past 2 years I have found that MOST (not all brandnew) people are preppy and white. The name vanillanova did have to come from somewhere.

Villanova has gone through a bit of a transformation since Father Pete has become the president of the university. When my D arrived in the fall of 2001, the stereotype of Vanillanova really described the school--and believe it or not, that's one of the reasons she chose to attend. She fit right in. Most of the kids were Irish/Italian Catholics, with the other nationalities represented. Her best friend was and still is an Iranian/Persian girl. Fast forward to now, my S is a freshman and when we arrived at Accepted Students Day back in the spring, I saw a bit of that transformation. Nova is actively TRYING to become more diverse. That being said, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle of these posters. There are still A LOT of white, Catholic kids, you name it --Irish or Italian--but I personally could detect the difference in the make up of the student body. It's not quite as Vanillanova as it used to be.
