it seems all the uc's attract certain types of people in general (of course, there are many exceptions to each of the rules, but you know.) berkeley - hippie-ish intellectual types. davis - friendly, laid-back. etc. so what's ucla's? does it have a stereotype like many of the other uc schools do?

asian…

haha yeah but that’s at almost all the uc schools, isn’t it? :P

dream school for a lot of asian girls for sure

“There is no typical UCLA student or faculty member. The only common denominator is an appetite for excellence.” -UCLA

Had to get that in there! lol

don’t agree with the above.

i use to hear that girls tend to dress up for class, or that ucla students tended to be image conscious with their choices of clothing. That is definitely not true when over 50 percent of the population either wear shorts and a t shirt and flip flops or jeans and a t shirt and flip flops. for the others, its usually girls who don’t know how to style themselves, and think layering a lot of pieces together makes them “fashionable”.its typical la.

undie run is still on for this quarter, right?

yea underground one tho

Well, I’ve been here for a quarter, and I can definitely say that there is no typical UCLA student. And it would be a hell of a stretch to say “an appetite for excellence” is a common denominator. It’s a state school, not Harvard. Most students did really well at their public California high schools. That’s really neat, but they don’t have anything else in common. On the other hand, there are thousands and thousands of students here. Which means there are enough people like you to have a group of 10-15 friends with similar interests, which is all you’re going to have anywhere. So figure out what your interests are, and then the first week of school find the club or sports team or group that serves that interest, and be friendly.

@ liek0806: looks at how girls and guys are ranked. then compare with other schools. need i say more?

^ college pro wler

I dunno but I hope that they aren’t snotty/fake like I hear-I applied as a transfer and have been desperately wanting to attend when I found out about the school a few years ago haha.

Sorry-I’m not a huge help! But the few people that I HAVE met that either went to ucla or are there now are geeky as heck and nice haha

^yeah that’s my fear…is that when i visited, a lot of them seemed arrogant/rude, moreso than at other schools i visited. :-/ maybe just caught the school on a bad day.

^ actually in my opinion people are generally pretty nice. there are some fake girls though…

^^ Depends on who you’re meeting. I would say about 30% are rude/arrogant, 10% are apathetic, and the rest are fairly nice to super helpful.

It’s funny how I hear a lot of people talking about how the fake the girls are here. I’ve only met a handful of girls like that. I would say there are much, much more guy d0uche bags.

(EDIT: Don’t get why CC filters “d0uche”…)

^ being a d0uche is different from being fake

The avg Bruin: White or asian, middle to upper middle class, from a California suburb, politically liberal to moderate, rather unconventional, unthreatening, and arguably dull. Booksmart and good at following the rules. Decently nice and cheery. Overworked and burdened. Even the ones who “party” (Greeks) are about as interesting as paint drying

namaste, are you stalking me? o.O

I don’t know who you are. Why, do you fit that description?

-__-

was a joke :P
