What's a normal weekend like at Notre Dame?

Depends on whether it is a football weekend or not. Needless to say the two are night and day.

i'd like to hear more about this as well...i have heard football weekends are great but what about regular weekends like in the spring and such

It really depends on what type of person you are. Though there is one thing to keep in mind. South Bend isn't exactly the most happening city in the country. It doesn't mean there's absolutely nothing to do though. Some people follow the "work hard, play hard" mentality and drink/party nearly every weekend--both on and off campus. Some may go to Chicago for a day/weekend visit. Some take advantage of the events going on campus--there's always a new movie showing, some kind of entertainment at Legends (the on-campus nightclub-generally the younger students go here though they do serve alcohol to 21 and up obviously) some kind of show at Washington Hall, etc. during the weekend.

However, whatever you choose to do (Thursday), Friday, and/or Saturday night, I think most people can agree with me in that around midday Sunday, nearly everyone is hitting the books pretty hard.

I'm not a partier myself just because I don't like being in big groups of people but I never find myself bored during the weekend...then again, I'm in engineering and usually choose to spend a portion of the weekend (in addition to Sunday) studying.

There's obviously not as much to do at ND as a college in a bigger city, but like I said, that doesn't mean there's nothing to do.

And like you guys have said...football weekends are a completely different story.

Football weekends, things start picking up on Friday afternoon (pep rallies, parents coming in, more people on campus, often parties later that night, etc). Then you get up Saturday morning and start pre-game festivities. This could be a lot of different things: body painting, meeting up with your family if they are in town, going to tailgates with your/your friends’ families, working/eating at concession stands, pregaming, seeing the concert on the steps of Bond Hall, watching the team walk from the Basilica to the stadium, etc. But it’s all about the game. The games are awesome (this is coming from someone who hated football before Notre Dame…). After the game, everyone goes to dinner (the DHs are candlelit). Some people may go out after that, but a lot of times, everyone is just exhausted.

As for regular weekends, jonoam is right. It depends on what kind of person you are. I go out fairly regularly now, but I didn’t go out as much freshman year and I was never bored. There are things like movies/plays/etc if you are looking for something quieter to do (there are always people around to hang out with). Or you can go out to a party. These fall into a few main categories. There are dorm room clear-outs (think plentiful cheap beer and lots of people, almost exclusively freshmen/sophomores) or off-campus house parties (beer pong, dancing, the possibility of kegs/hard alcohol). For more low key things, people often just hang out in their dorm rooms with a few friends to watch a movie, play a game (board games, video games, mafia, and the forbidden drinking games), drink, or some combination of the above. Legends also has free dancing/concerts and is open to all students. Once you turn 21, there are also several bars in the area that cater to the ND crowd. During the day, people also shop, go out to eat, go on trips to Chicago, do service work, etc. Pretty standard stuff.

On Sundays, everyone studies. A lot. Some people will go to mass in the morning, but most people who are going (there are masses everywhere on campus, but there is no pressure to go), will go to mass at 10 PM in their dorm.

HA! I ask this question regularly to my ND freshmen son.Just today at noon, when I called and woke him up, I asked him what he did last night. “Not much”, “Hung out”. That is about all I get for an answer. Oh yes, I did once get “you don’t want to know”. Whatever the weekends are like at ND they must be fun because my son is VERY fun oriented and LOVES ND.
